My phone laid flat on my chest, most likely as a result of scanning through it before falling asleep. It buzzed violently, making me jump up from my sleep in an instant. With my eyes widened and heart beating quickly, I sat up and blinked a few times before seeing that Justin wanted to FaceTime.
"I look so bad," I groaned under my breath as I swiped the answer button, looking at an enlarged picture of myself as the call loaded. After it had connected, Justin's face reflected across the screen, making me smile like a fool.
"Good morning, sunshine," Justin cooed, his dimples leaving indents at the corners of his mouth.
"Whatever," I laughed, smoothing out my hair with one hand as I held the phone in the other. "While you're over there all bright and happy, I just woke up and I probably have drool all over my face."
He chuckled, biting his lip while watching me wipe my chin with the sleeve of my sweater.
"I'm not gonna lie, you did have some on the side of your mouth. It was hot, though."
I scoffed, flipping him off which earned a fit of laughter from Justin. He laid on his chest against the mattress in the hotel room, his bicep flexing as he switched the phone from his left to right hand.
"You didn't call yesterday," I frowned, rubbing my eyes. "I thought you would."
"I know, baby. I'm sorry, but things got crazy. We had to check into the hotel, go out for dinner, then go to the studio for a test run, and by the time we finished I was literally drained of all my energy."
Justin ran his fingers through his hair, letting out a deep breath. His eyes were filled with regret, something that I could sense even though the screen of my phone.
"Oh, well how is everything? Are you liking it so far?"
He nodded his head, taking a sip out of his Starbucks cup before replying.
"It's amazing, Jasmine. I'm going to meet up with Usher tonight and I'm so excited. He's literally my biggest man crush. I might ask him out on a date."
Laughing, I stood up from bed and placed my phone against the lamp on the bedside table for stability. I lifted my arms up, pulling my sweater off my head which left me in a tank top that stuck to my torso.
Justin's eye's widened, his eyebrows raising with them.
"Are you really gonna strip for me right now? Fuck, at least give me a five minute warning beforehand," He groaned, staring straight at my body. Picking my phone back up, I rolled my eyes and began walking towards the kitchen.
"Boy, you better control your hormones," I pointed a finger at him while laughing. "It's getting really hot in my apartment."
He sat up, his phone shaking as he did so. Placing his phone on his knee, the camera was pointed toward his chiseled torso that seemed to be glowing under the sunlight.
"Hey, can you blame me? I need to get laid, like, as soon as possible, but you're not here."
I shrugged, smiling childishly at him while taking sip of my water bottle.
"Do you know when you're going to have time to come back and visit?" I asked curiously, reaching into the fruit bowl in front of me and taking a bite out of an apple.
His demeanor switched, his body shifting around in his spot. I furrowed my eyebrows as I awaited a response.
"See, that's one of the reasons why I called so early," Justin scratched the side of his face awkwardly. "I wanted to break the news to you before something else came up in my schedule. I'm literally booked for this upcoming month, and there's no way I can switch anything around. Scott wants me to work my ass off until I get some recognition around here."
I choked on the piece of apple that I was chewing, putting my phone against the bowl before taking a sip of water to relieve myself. My heart sunk at his words and I felt my hands grow shaky.
"That's, uh," I stuttered, feeling my throat constrict. "Wow. That's crazy."
"Babe, I know you're upset, but I have no say over any of this," Justin sighed, running his hand over his face.
Sighing, I put my apple down and wiped my hands off on my sweatpants. I looked up to find Justin staring at me with a frown on his lips.
"I miss you so much, Justin," I spoke shakily, trying not to break down in front of him. "I just want to see you again."
"Trust me, I want to see you, too. I'll try to finish my work as quickly as I can, alright? Does that sound okay to you?"
I nodded my head sadly, feeling my tears run down my cheeks.
"Don't cry, angel," Justin sighed, looking equally as upset as I was. "We'll see each other in no time."
"It just sucks. A lot," I laughed, wiping underneath my eyes.
He opened his mouth to speak before a series of knocks came from his end of the line.
"Shit, sorry. Can you wait for a minute, please? Someone's at the door."
Nodding my head, I bit my lip as I watched his phone flop down on the bed, the camera now facing the ceiling. I tapped my foot against the ground as I waited, hearing an incoherent conversation in the background.
He returned after a few minutes, groaning as he picked up the phone.
"That was my vocal coach. She told me my lessons start in half an hour. Honestly, I'd rather just stay in the hotel room and sleep," Justin laughed, laying flat on the bed and holding his phone up in the air.
"Go get yourself ready, babe. I don't wanna waste your time," I shooed him, watching his lips form into a pout.
"I'm gonna miss you," Justin cooed, puckering his lips.
I covered my mouth to stop myself from laughing.
"You literally look like a duck right now," I teased, feeling my tears come to an end.
"I look so good from this angle," Justin tilted his phone, squinting his eyes and pushing his eyebrows together.
I rolled my eyes, watching him change his pose and the way he held his camera continuously.
"Go get ready," I said through my laughter. "I'll talk to you later."
He sighed, frowning at me.
"Whatever, mom," Justin joked, his smile widening so much that his cheeks pushed his up against eyes, making them squint.
"I love you. Have fun today," I smiled, blowing him a kiss through the phone.
"Love you more," Justin made kissing noises, bringing his lips right up to the camera. The screen went dark and when he pulled away, it was blurry from his saliva.
"Nasty ass," I stuck my tongue out at him.
He waved and the call came to an end, making the same empty feeling rush across my body.
I rubbed my face with my hand and thought to myself.
If this was how bad things were going without seeing him for a day, how would it be for another month?
