Peeling my eyes open and cringing at the intensity of the sunlight, I yawned and blinked a few times to clear my vision. Justin remained sleeping before me, his fingers digging into my skin. I tried to move away from him, but felt him pulling me closer as I did so. I groaned silently under my breath and gave up, laying there in silence.

A few restless minutes later, his eyes opened and he stretched his limbs out the best that he could in my cramped car.

"Hi," I spoke quietly, feeling him rub the side of my hip with his fingertips. I scooted over awkwardly and sat up, which he did so shortly after me. He scratched the side of his face as if he was trying to recall something.

"All I remember is falling asleep in this car. What happened before that?" He asked groggily, clearing his throat.

I sighed and ran my hand over my face, not wanting to be reminded of what had happened.

"Long story short, I saved you from potentially overdosing and took you away so that nothing else would happen. And if I'm being honest, I shouldn't have done any of it. We're not even together anymore. Your girlfriend should be the one looking after you," I spat, feeling surprised at myself for saying such things.

Justin rolled his eyes and muttered something under his breath.

"I never told you to come to the rescue, Jasmine," He breathed out in frustration. "I would've been fine at home."

"Oh really? Is that why your sister called me in tears over you? She's the one who told me to help out, Justin. I don't have a sixth sense that tells me when people are on the verge of death."

Scoffing at my sarcasm, he unlocked the car door and made his way outside. He spoke quietly that he needed to get some fresh air. I tried to calm myself by taking deep breaths until I felt my phone buzz wildly in my pocket. Pulling it out, my eyes widened at the amount of missed calls and texts that I had.

52 texts from Melissa. 96 missed calls from Tyler. 2 texts from the girl who sits next to me in my philosophy class.

"I'm in trouble," I spoke to myself, scanning my eyes over each one of the missed calls in my call log. I debated with myself over whether or not I should reply to any of them, but I decided that it was best to just focus on what was happening at the moment.

Slipping my phone back into my pocket, I climbed out of the car and found Justin leaning against the front of my car. His eyebrows furrowed as he lifted a cigarette to his lips and inhaled deeply.

I stood beside him and crossed my arms against my chest, watching him blow jagged clouds out of his mouth. He turned to face me and flicked the ashes off his cigarette.

"Life is fucked up, isn't it?" He laughed sadly, taking another puff.

I remained silent and looked down at my feet as I kicked the dirt under us. Clouds of dust flew up around my shoes and coated them in a thin layer.

"We should get going," I said monotonously, feeling the cold morning breeze enveloping my body. I hugged myself and saw Justin taking his jacket off in the corner of my eye. He draped it over my shoulders and dropped his cigarette butt to the ground, crushing it with the sole of his shoe.

"Aren't we going to talk about this? You're just going to leave me again?" He questioned.

I raised my eyebrows, looking at him in shock. Me? Leaving him? He had it all backwards.

"I really don't know what to say to you anymore. I don't have anything to talk to you about. Now tell me a place to take you. You're not going back to Hailey's house."
