Who am I: Hailey
"Look at this one, Hailey! This one is totally cool as well!" Sol Mi squeal.
I ignore her.
"Omo! Look at this one! You definitely have to act in this script! Hay~"
I slump in my seat. Why am I friends with her again?
"You definitely have to act in this one! The fierce stepmother of a wealthy family. That is so cool!"
"Do I look like someone old enough to be a stepmother? Rejected." I simply say, focused on picking the script I like.
"You can totally act out the fierceness. Look!"
She shove the script in my face.
"Sol Mi!"
I push her hand away. Sol Mi shove the script into my hands instead, adamantly pointing out what she likes. I hate to admit but the lines did draw me in.
The stepmother sure is a decisive person, but with an extremely biased view against the poor. The difficulty level of this character isn't beneath Luz. I could be slightly extravagant and snobbish in this drama but if I do act this character out, I'm definitely going to be cursed at for a long time.
"What matters more now is impact. If you were to act as the good girl, it's a longer way up. More villain scenes are good for us, Hay. Besides, evil characters are usually avoided by people. We have to craft out a unique path all to ourselves! This is the way for us!" Sol Mi stress. "Do you understand, Hay? This is for your future!"
She's been reading too much novels.
"Your acting skill's been leaning a little to the evil side anyway. We might as well go full throttle evil! You must become the next Mishil!"
I take back my words, she did not read too much novels, she's been watching too many dramas.
"You should really learn how to act that sort of character. That's the epitome of evil. So evil you can't help but love her and respect her."
"Are you planning on marring my image until it's pure black?"
"Why not? This way even if everyone doesn't want to be your fan, you have a irreplaceable place in their heart. The moment they think of evil, they think of you. Just like Mishil!"
My mouth fell open at her comment.
"I've done a lot of analysis, Hay. Look, building a good image is too overrated and over saturated. That market is full to the brim. The only way to build a unique portfolio that stands out is to be the black among the white. You get your favorite strong tasting characters as well."
What she says makes a little sense...
"Just trust in me. I'm your manager after all." Sol Mi pat her chest confidently.
"Let's try it then." I smile, closing the script. I do really like this type of character. Maybe Sol Mi do know me more than I do myself.
"Then I'll help you reject all these." Sol Mi say, arranging the other scripts.
"Hang on, I saw one regarding an assassin." I stop her.
"What's good about that character? You can't even show your face."
"I have to try something new once in a while right?" I say. "There it is."
The assassin role is stipulated to be the heroine's sidekick.
"Sure thing. I'll tell Dad about these two and update you on the interview dates." Sol Mi gather the rest of the scripts in her arm. "Wait for my news and stay at home."
"Yes Mummy bear." I walk her to the door.
Before Icy Sun broke the ratings to become a powerhouse, Sol Mi sneakily signed me up with her Dad before the other small agencies tried to poach me over. Mr Sol, on account of his daughter, took me in though he's still a little skeptical. I've got to prove my worth to him. More determined, I flip open the script and pick up the pencil.
Both roles needed me to be skinny. Ghost is supposed to be a assassin whom is the object of envy for the main character for her slim figure. Just like a ghost, she acts as the charge's bodyguard on her Master's order, eliminates those who dare harbour a thought on harming her charge. Ghost is someone who stains her sword with blood of the Master's enemy in the dark silently as well.
Jong Yi Woo is a middle age woman who looks very young, but what gives her age away are her eyes. It is said that no one dares to look at her in the eye, her eyes are like sharp needles ready to attack anyone at anytime. Even her son prefers to look at something past his mother's head at the background instead of her eyes. That is how he can face her and talk to her.
Ghost needs to have a presence that is normally so absent that you will gloss over her in the crowd and never remember who it was, but when she fights, she could make her opponent shiver without knowing why. Ghost never shows the whole of her face, it's either covered by her hair, or specs or mask, or cap. Her face is never shown, but she plays an important role in aiding the main character, the modern Juliet.
Yi Woo is a extravagant woman who does most of her acting with her eyes. A woman whose only interested in profit and loss, and despises the poor. She has immense stage presence, making the room stuffy and uncomfortable with just her presence. She is the boss character of the drama and ultimately, the one who will bear all the hatred of the audience when she pokes into her son's business and controls him.
Both roles are similar yet different. Both character talk more with their body, eyes and gestures rather than speech. Both use extremely different auras, and the filming period are at about the same time.
"This will be interesting." a grin stretch across my face as I study the characters.
It's fascinating, this excitement bubbling in me like a child on Christmas when just a few months ago, my heart ached terribly when I wrapped up "Luz"; as though I fell out of love. This black hole that desires to be on a set again. Acting is too alluring, risky, and addictive like a drug. Damn you, Sol Mi.
