What should I do, what should I do?
I looked around frantically as I made my way around the neighbourhood to look for a phone booth.
"Hello? Hello?" Woo Jin finally picked up the phone.
Although I used both hands to support the phone, I couldn't help the trembling.
" Woo Jin, w..where's Boss," I said.
" Boss just went out. Why? Why do you sound so weird?" Woo Jin asked.
"I...I.." Just the mere thought of it made me lose control and I sank to the ground, holding to the phone for support.
" My family's missing." I squeaked out as my vision became very blurry. "Gone, missing, vanished. I can't find them and there are these weird people living in my house and there's a different surname hanging beside the housing plate and-"
"Calm down Odile, where are you now?"
"I don't know... Somewhere... Somewhere close to my house.... what to do." I bawled. "What am I to do! I...!"
"Odile, you got to calm down." I hear Woo Jin repeat again and again, while in the background I hear a rustle and Woo Jin was shouting into the far distance. " Mum, you didn't tell Odile? Talk to her, I'm going-"
"Odile?" Lady Boss spoke, taking hold of the phone and evidently shocked."Listen Odile. Listen. Listen, hush. They're all fine."
"They are?" My tear duct went into overdrive. "I thought I won't ever see them again. I thought they abandoned me... Are they fine? Are you really really for real?"
"Yes, they're fine. The house was sold to someone by your debtors just a few days ago and your family was in a pinch but we sorted it out. They are all fine, you hear me. They are all fine. Now take a deep breath, go on, good girl. Stay where you are alright? I'm terribly sorry, I meant to tell you but I was so carried away with settling the paperwork and dealing with that pesky landlord and the advertisement aspect of your upcoming album that I forgot to tell you, though that's really not an excuse. They really are Okay, Odile. We'll bring you to them tomorrow, okay? Don't cry anymore, dear. It's all okay."
I sniffed the mucus back into my nose. " Y... Yes, Lady Boss."
The relief that came with the information didn't chase away the initial dread that I felt but it did feel better. There was hope. My family didn't abandon me. I must hurry. I need to see them be sure. Mum, Big Sis, the twins....
Wiping my tears with my mucus-filled sleeves, I got up and exited the phone booth, keeping my head down in an attempt to avoid the stares of the passersby.
"Odile!" Woo Jin called out and I was pulled into a bear hug. "Dammit, you... Do you know how worried I was?"
That was what got me really crying and sneezing into his shirt as I hugged him back. I almost lost my family and I didn't even know it. How bad of a daughter was I?
We stayed like that until I managed to calm my emotions down a little.
"Better? Everyone's been giving me weird looks like I'm the one bullying you or something. Well as long as you feel better."
Woo Jin as a bully? Pffft!
"Seriously? How do you laugh and cry at the same time." He said, grabbing my wrist. "Let's go."
"Sorry about your shirt," I mumbled.
"This?" He pointed to the huge blot of dark red on his red shirt. "Nah it's nothing. Mum will just have to wash it."
He gave me his lopsided smile again and squeezed my wrist a little as he led me back.
