It was late morning and Connie was packing up a few sandwiches for her and Grace. They were taking a walk to the park wanting to make the most of the nice weather. It was February, there was a cool breeze but the warm sun made it a pleasant day.
They found a bench by the pond to eat their picnic and Grace giggled at the ducks squabbling over the crusts Connie was throwing for them.
"Grace?" Connie started.
"Mmm."
"There's something I'd like to talk to you about... it's ..."
"Yes mum."
"What do you think of Jacob?" Connie asked tentatively.
"I like him, he's funny and kind....I like that he brings me pizza. Do you think if you asked him he would come to the cinema with us later?"
"I can ask." Replied Connie.
"Why are you asking me about Jacob?" Grace asked puzzled.
"I was just wondering... you know, with him spending time with us... just wondering that's all."
"Do you like Jacob?" Grace blurted out.
Connie's head snapped up looking at Grace, answering in a soft and sincere voice,
"Yes, I do."
They were sat quietly for a while when Grace broke the silence she asked, "Do you wish Jacob was your boyfriend?"
"Would it bother you? Would you mind if he was?" Connie inquired.
"Why would I mind? Jacob's nice. Will he be moving in with us?"
Connie smiled at Grace. "Its early days, we're still getting to know each other but I want you to know that you will always come first for me Gracie. I'm not going to mess things up with you again. I promise."
Grace jumped up to give her mum a hug.
"I love you mummy."
"I love you too sweetheart."
