Chapter Six

A look of panic crossed Connie's face as it dawned on her what she'd said, her kindle fell to the floor as she fled upstairs, leaving Jacob sat there in a state of shock and disbelief. It was only a matter of seconds though before his brain caught up and started processing what had just happened, he jumped up and went tearing after her.
Connie's head snapped up as Jacob came bursting through the bedroom door.
"Look, I'm sorry...it's...I'm ...just forget I said anything...I wasn't thinking...just pretend it never happened!" Stammered Connie's. She was sat on the edge of her bed with tears threatening to fall.
"No...why would I do a thing like that?" Jacob asked as the look of disbelief returned to his face. That's when it all started to make sense, why she'd ran, why she was trying to take it back. It was his delay that had caused her to panic, she'd misunderstood his silence and taken his reaction the wrong way.
Jacob slowly moved forward and knelt down in front of Connie, putting his hands on her knees.
"Sweet cheeks?...Look at me please!"
"Just go Jacob, it's fine... I'll see you tomorrow."
Jacob sighed and shook his head.
"Will you please just listen to me before you jump to anymore conclusions....You caught me off guard downstairs, you've never really been very open about your feelings for me...I mean...I knew you liked me but... that was the last thing I thought you was going to say! So please don't be sorry for what you said and please please don't take it back."
Lifting Connie's chin so she would look at him Jacob continued.
"I fell in love with you a long time ago Con. Your my Queen B."
A watery smile formed on Connie's face. "Really, you mean that?"
"I really do... this is the real deal for me... I'm in this for the long haul."
Jacob reached up to hold her face.
"I love you sweet cheeks."
"I love you muscles." Connie replied.
They shared a gentle kiss full of love and spent the rest of the night wrapped in each others arms.

The next morning Connie was up bright and early making breakfast for the three of them when a pair of strong arms snaked around her waist.
"Oh!" Connie jumped.
"Sorry." Mumbled Jacob half heartedly, completely distracted plying the side of Connie's neck with tinny kisses.
Connie turned around in his embrace, reaching up on her tip toes to kiss his lips while Jacob pulled her closer to deepen it.
"Yuk! You two are so sloppy!" Came Grace's voice from the kitchen doorway.
Jacob and Connie chuckled as they slowly pulled apart.
"Can we all watch a film together after school?" Grace inquired hopefully. "I'll even let you two cuddle!"
"It'll just the two of us tonight Gracie, Jacob's got plans tonight with his friends." Explained Connie.
"Can we have popcorn?"
"Sure we can sweetie." Said Connie.
Jacob and a small group of his friends that he'd known since school had arranged to meet for a few drinks after work, Connie had encouraged him go. "Its fine, get yourself out, let your hair down!" She had told him last week when he first mentioned it.
"Right, come on let's eat or we will be late!" Jacob said clapping his hands together.

Later that day Connie was busy with a male patient, she was wearing a plastic apron, face mask and rubber gloves. She was in the middle of performing a procedure to stop a bleed in the young man abdomen, he was critically ill.
Jacob put him head round the door to say bye to Connie and that he wouldn't be to late, but she called him in with a nod of her head.
"Everything ok Mrs Beauchamp?" Jacob asked being professional.
"Jacob I can't leave right now, I need to finish this." She looked up to the clock with worry in her eyes. Jacob clicked at what she was saying.
"Grace?" He guessed.
Connie nodded. "If you just pick her up from school and drop her in my office with Zoe.... would your friends mind if you was a little late?"
Jacob smiled. "No problem beautiful, I'll go now." And headed off.
"Thank you!" Connie called after him.
Jacob turned and winked at her as he went through the door.

Sometime later after Connie had stabilized her patient in resus she made her way through the department to her office. Opening the door smiling looking around for Grace.
"Everything ok Connie?" Asked Zoe.
"Err where's Grace? Jacob was supposed to drop her here...."
"Sorry, I've not seen either of them. Been doing this bloody paperwork for hours... Connie?"
"Mmm, sorry, let me just ring Jacob."
Connie rummaged in her handbag for her phone, that's when she notice a missed call and a text message from Jacob.
"Hey sweet cheeks, Grace was hungry when I picked her up. The guys suggested I bring her to have a meal. We're in the Maple Tree in town. Hope that's ok? Why don't you come joins us? Ring me xxx"
Connie grabbed her coat and bag. She stormed out of the E.D to find Grace and give Jacob a piece of her mind, how dare he take her daughter to a drinking session!!
