As the weeks rolled by, Connie and Grace found their footing, they had a routine that fitted them both. Connie worked when Grace was at school and took home a small amount of paperwork to keep her up to date. On the two days each week where Connie had to work till later on in the evening, Grace would occupy herself with homework or games on her iPad. Jacob helped out to, he would entertain Grace with his own interpretation of medical training, there wasn't a safe piece of fruit in the E.D.
The three of them were sat in Connie's office while she finished up writing up some patient notes.
Connie smiled as she watched Grace, carefully supervised by Jacob, make a steady incision into a banana.
"Nice work mini Beauchamp!" Exclaimed Jacob. "Right, how about me and you head to yours and cook up a special meal for your mum?"
"As long as I can be head chef." Grace pleaded.
"You got it princess!"
They said goodbye to Connie, who assured them she'd be home in two hours.

A war zone is the only way to describe how the kitchen looked. Connie stood in the kitchen doorway with her eyes wide and her mouth hanging open.
"I was about to say something smells good but.... What on earth happened in here?"
"It's all good sweet cheeks, it's not as bad as it looks!" Connie could tell by his face that even Jacob didn't believe what he was saying.
Grace grabbed hold of her mum's hand and pulled her through to the living room.
"Don't worry mum, Jacob said he would clear it all up."
"Erm! Excuse me little miss Beauchamp!" Jacob shouted through from the kitchen, "I believe your missing one little detail from that sentence!"
Grace looked up at her mum with the most serious face she could muster.
"I'm cleaning up too." She grumbled.
Connie was chuckling listening to the banter until she stepped into the living room. She stopped in her tracks and took in the sight before her.
The table was set out with three place settings, candles and napkins. Jacob and Grace had made a chicken curry with all the trimmings, naan bread and rice. There was severely smaller pots of different sauces.
"Wow! You two made all this? It looks amazing!"
"Don't look so surprised mum! Jacob's a quick learner." Grace teased just as Jacob entered the living room. He wrapped his arms around Connie's waist from behind and rested his chin on her shoulder.
"Come on, don't stand here staring, the food'll be cold!"

"That was wonderful, thank you you two. I could get used to this." Connie smiled.
The three of them headed into the kitchen and made short work of the chaos, Grace washed, Jacob dried and Connie cleaned the work top.
"Thank you for today Jacob." Grace said has she hugged him round the waist. "I've had so much fun."
"No problem Grace, I had fun too." Beamed Jacob.

After Grace had gone to bed, Connie and Jacob settled down in the living room.
Connie sat stretched out at one end of the settee, her back leaning against the arm of the chair and her feet resting on Jacob's lap. Sometimes they would sit and talk, other times they'd watch some tv. Tonight though they each had a book to read.
Every now and then Jacob would look up from his tablet to find Connie sneaking a peak at him over the top of her kindle, with a small grin on her face. After the fourth time of catching her Jacob gave up.
"What?... do I have something on my face?... What is it?" He was starting to feel paranoid.
Connie looked up from her book again, her smile had been exchanged for a serious stare as she said,
"I've fallen in love with you Jacob."
