On my way to P.E., I ran into Kyle and he looked worried. I didn't want him to worry anymore than he already was so, I smiled at him. He smiled back and offered me a hug. I accepted it but I may have hugged him too tight, because he pulled back and looked me in the eyes. I don't think I had ever noticed how green his eyes were until that moment.
"Are you okay? You seem freaked out."
"I'm fine Kyle. Anyway, if we don't hurry we won't get to class on time." I quickly turned away quickly to walk down the hall. I heard him following close behind me. I couldn't help but smile. Especially with what I had planned for later. I was going to get all of the answers I needed.
We made it to the gym just as the tardy bell was ringing. I looked around the gym quickly, and let out a sigh of relief. Leo wasn't there. Good, I thought, I have a least a little time to think about what I'm going to do about him and fear.
I walked into the locker room and changed into my P.E uniform which included a pair of shorts, a T-shirt, and tennis shoes. Once I got back into the gym the coach announced that we would all be playing dodgeball. "Great." I said to myself, "human target practice." I could hear a collective groan all across the gym. Then it came to me, I didn't really look to see if I knew anybody else in the class besides Kyle.
I looked around the gym and saw girl named Mika, I guess she was better than Lexi who is sitting in the back of the class with a bunch of boys. Mika seemed quiet, and reserved. I decided we would be great friends.
Coach told us to split into two teams for our dodgeball game. Sadly, I ended up on a team with Kyle, Lexi and a few other popular people. I figured I'd just have to talk to Mika later.
Honestly, I didn't feel like playing dodgeball. I hated the game. Lexi wasn't even really paying attention to the game at all. I felt like throwing a ball at her myself just to get it over with. All she was doing was flirting with the guys on our team. It was annoying as hell. The only other person that seemed as annoyed about it as I was, was Kyle. He kept telling her to pay attention.
My team lost the game. After the game, I confronted Lexi. "What the hell was that out there?!"
She gave me a surprise look, "What do you mean, goth girl?"
I took a deep breath in and slowly let it out. "What's that supposed to mean you prissy, little cheerleader?" I stood up straight, using my height to my advantage.
She just smiled, "It means you're a freak." Her smile stayed, I wanted to hit her so bad. The last straw was when began to laugh as she walked away. Her mistake was turning her back on me.
I practically jumped on her back and started pulling her ponytail, I must have surprised her because it took her a couple seconds to react. By that time she was on the floor face down and screaming for me to stop pulling her hair."Take it back." I started to loosen up on her ponytail, she took the advantage, flipped over, and tried to slap my hands away. The one thing I didn't understand was why nobody was trying to stop us from fighting. I sat up, ignoring the girl that was fighting to get away from me, and looked around.
The room was empty except for me and Lexi. A couple of the lights started to flicker. I started to get a funny feeling and almost forgot about Lexi's slaps. She screamed and I focused my attention back on her. I made a fist with my right hand, "If you don't shut up right now, I will knock you out and leave you here alone."
At that moment there was a loud crashing sound at the back to the locker room. Lexi pushed me off of her and stood straight up. I stood as well and we were silent. The only sound I could hear was Lexi's breath coming in short quick rasps. She was scared, and I could tell. I took a step forward when I believed that it was safe enough, only to be stopped by Lexi's shaking hand on my shoulder. "What's going on?", She whispered shakily. "I feel like my body won't move right."
I looked back at her and saw that she was crying. "I don't know. I'm trying to figure that out", I said back. "Stay here, and keep quiet." I started to walk again, but Lexi started to scream.
I turned around quickly and I was just in time to see a large creature with the body sort of like a man's but larger. There were black holes where it's should've been. It had a long claws for each of its fingers. It's head was shaped more like a ram's and it had jagged, sharp horns. It looked like something out of a nightmare.
In a moment, the creature was in my face. It was so close I could feel it breathing. Then as quick as it had appeared, creature was gone, and the school was back to normal. There were groups of girls leaving the locker room, laughing and chatting as usual. I saw Lexi, she looked so frightened. Her whole body was shaking.
I reached out to touch her, and she started screaming. I put my hand over her mouth before anybody heard her. "Shh...", I said. "Calm down, it's okay now." She was breathing heavily. I picked her up her stuff and mine. I began to guide her out of the locker room into the main building. I stopped for a moment and checked her schedule. Luckily, she had art with me. I walked with her to the art room and sat her down at a table with me.
Why couldn't I have a normal first day of school?
