Kelsey

The sun trying to peek through the crack in my closed blinds woke me up. I could already tell that today was going to be beautiful. I quickly pulled my hair into a bun and walked out into the kitchen.

"Good morning!" Mom greeted me warmly as I shuffled in. She was the only one in the kitchen.

"Where's everyone else?" I asked as I grabbed a knife and started cutting up fruit with her.

"They're all asleep."

"So, I'm first up? That's rare," I frowned to myself. Mom shook her head and chuckled to herself.

"Hey, do you want to take the guys to the city today? It's really nice out."

"Maybe. I might want to take a walk through the woods. It's a perfect day for that. And you never know when another day this nice will come. Am I right?"

"I guess you're right," Mom shrugged and stirred the food she was cooking.

"Do you want some help?"

"No, I'm fine. Go wake everyone else up, it's almost ready," Mom waved her spoon frantically in my direction, shooing me out of the kitchen.

I nodded and turned down the hallway towards Celeste, Lexi, and Rose's rooms. After I had woken them up, I went to the guys' rooms and woke them up. When I walked out of Will and Woody's room, I found Dan leaning against the wall engrossed in a black and tan braided bracelet on his left wrist.

"Dan? You okay? You're a little zoned out," I giggled as I approached.

He immediately straightened up and dropped the bracelet. "Oh, uh..." he turned red and scratched the back of his neck uncomfortably. "How'd you sleep last night?" Dan smiled sheepishly and quickly changed the subject.

"Fine, you?" I smiled in return.

"Oh... Um, just fine."

"Kelsey! Dan! We're going to eat this food and leave none of it for you if you don't come now!" Lexi called from the kitchen.

"Coming!" I called back to her before I turned and walked down the hall into the kitchen. I heard Dan following closely behind me.

"So, what are your plans for today?" Mom turned to look at me as we did the dishes. Everyone else had gone back to their rooms to get dressed for the day.

"I don't know. I guess it depends on what they want to do today," I shrugged and put away the plate I was drying.

"Maybe you should do something to get to know each other a little better," Mom suggested as she wiped off the food that had fallen onto the stovetop.

"We could go out to the woods," Lexi walked up behind me and suggested, grabbing a towel and starting to help.

"Are you sure everyone else would want to?" I raised my eyebrows at her.

"Why not? It'd be fun!" Lexi snorted. "It'll also give us a chance to get to know them better, just like your mom said."

"Okay, if you say so..." I shrugged.

"Yes. You need to get out, Kelsey. I'll be fine," Mom put the towel she was using down by the stove and hurried over to me. "Listen to me, Kels, you need to be normal. Don't let what you are bother you. I let go of it years ago when I found out what your father was. You are not your father. You are not the mistakes the he continues to make. You are your own person. Please, please, enjoy yourself. You need to learn how to."
