Lexi

As soon as Dan started to fall, Kelsey screamed. She hurried over to him, but it was too late. He was out.

"Fuck," she growled under her breath as she dropped to her knees beside Dan. The other guys backed up to give her some space, or because they were scared. Probably the later. I'd be scared as hell if I were them.

Kelsey just held Dan's head in her lap. She looked panicked and was frantically checking for a pulse. Rose hurried over to Kelsey's side. "Kelsey, I need you to move," Rose said quietly as she gently look Dan's head out of Kelsey's hands.

"Fine," Kelsey muttered and backed away. But not too far, just far enough away to give Rose some room. I saw Rose take a deep breath and roll her eyes slightly. She silently began to check to make sure Dan is okay.

I turned to Kyle, Will, and Woody. As soon as my eyes met their's, they recoiled slightly. Kyle even flinched. This tore my heart to pieces. It felt like someone ripped it out with their bare hands, threw it on the ground and began stomping it into nothing.

"I'm nothing you need to be afraid of, please understand," I said quietly, trying to fold my wings as tightly against my back and as out of sight as possible. I knew it was a sensory overload for them to see everything that they'd just witnessed.

As hard as it is for me to believe, even today, I was once in their shoes. When I found out that werewolves are actually real and not just a myth that Guardians are told to keep the younglings in line, I was just as scared as they are. It's not everyday that a Guardian is Assigned to a werewolf, especially a Black Moon Pack member. The last few Guardians were ripped apart by werewolves that they were Assigned to.

"What are you?" Kyle asked quietly.

"Like Celeste said before, she and I are both Guardians," I answered equally as quiet.

"No, I get that. But what is a Guardian?"

"In human lore, you call us angels. We're here to protect you as long as you may live. If our Assignment happens to be immortal, then we are there for all of eternity. If our Assignment is a human, they may never even know their best friend or significant other is even a Guardian. They only know if we want them to know."

"Guardian angels are real? I never would've guessed..." Kyle muttered under his breath. "But then again, I just saw a pack of werewolves."

"Is this even real? Are we real?" Woody looked down at the ground, his eyes wide.

"What even is reality?" I tried to lighten the mood with a lame joke.

"I'm already going through one existential crisis. I don't need another one..." Woody looked up and frowned.

"Sorry, I was only trying to lighten the mood," I frowned and held up my hands.

"No, I'm sorry," Woody shook his head.

"You said something about Rose being a witch?" Will asked.

"Yes, she's a witch," I nodded, looking back at my other two friends. Celeste had joined Rose's side. "She's one of the younger members of the Coven, though."

"The Coven? You means there's more?" Will paled even more.

"Well, yeah! There's not only one of each of us! This isn't the end of times," I giggled. "There's much more to the world than meets the eye, believe me. While I was growing up, I didn't even know the werewolves were real until I was old enough to receive my first Assignment."
