Hey guys! Thanks for reading! I really appreciate it. I hope you are enjoying the story so far. I just wanted to apologize for the long wait but I've gotten busy. There may not be an update next week because I have my musical (yay!). So please be patient.
After that, the ride back to Bobby's house was silent. The only noise was the AC/DC playing on the radio. Kieran took my hand and held it. I gave him a small smile but I wasn't sure if I should trust him. He was my husband, but he had been gone for eons. I was afraid that he had become someone that I wouldn't recognize. It didn't help that Bobby kept giving him weird glances, as if he was expecting Kieran to pull out a knife and kill us all.
When we finally reached Bobby's house, I was relieved. The Impala was amazing, no doubt, but it was cramped with five people in it. I was starting to have difficulty breathing. I was always so used to being unconfined. I had lived in a meadow, after all.
Bobby was the first one out, moving before the car had completely stopped. Maybe he just wanted away from Kieran or maybe he sensed my growing fear. Either way, as soon as he was out of the car, I was clambering out, wanting to be free. When I made it out, I bent down with my hands on my knees, sweat streaming down my face. I felt light-headed and dizzy.
When I started to wobble, I heard Bobby's worried voice, "Meara, are you okay?"
That's when I collapsed. I was expecting to feel the impact of my body hitting the ground but I never felt it. Instead I felt strong arms catching me and lifting me. My vision was getting blurry but I stayed awake long enough to see that it was Dean who had caught me. His worried face was the last thing I saw before I passed out.
I heard voices before I even opened my eyes. It sounded like the men were arguing with each other. I was still out of it, so I didn't focus too much on what they were arguing about. Their voices seemed like they coming from below me. So Dean must have carried me upstairs and put me in a bed.
I finally opened my eyes, only to see my vision swim again. I breathed through it and started to get up. I had to stop after every movement because I felt like I was going to pass out again. It felt like it took me forever before I was standing on my feet. I very carefully and slowly walked to the door and opened it. Then I went to the staircase and started climbing down it.
The voices were growing louder, so I knew I was getting closer to them. When I got downstairs, I walked to Bobby's study, the only place I thought they would be. Sure enough, as soon as I walked into the room, the arguing abruptly stopped. So it seemed as though they were arguing about me.
Dean was the first one to walk towards me. He placed his arm around my waist to support me as I started to wobble slightly. "What are you doing out of bed?"
I closed my eyes and leaned into him, letting him support my weight. He easily kept me up. "I heard arguing."
I opened my eyes as I felt the tension in Dean's arm. "What were you arguing about?"
Bobby glared at Kieran, obviously not trusting his motives. "You."
I rolled my eyes, which was a mistake and only made me dizzier. "I could've told you that."
Kieran looked at me in concern but seemed too afraid of Bobby and Dean to come over to me. "We were arguing about my...lack...of attention to your...condition."
I blinked and looked at him in confusion. "What condition?"
Sam sighed. "Apparently when a leviathan female loses her mate, her body becomes a hostile environment so she can't reproduce. This prevents the males from reproducing except with their own mate. Now that your mate is back, your body is trying to make itself fertile again for the reproduction process."
I groaned in frustration at the weakness I was feeling. "So, you're telling me that my body is changing itself so that it can make babies?"
Kieran nodded. "Yes, essentially."
I groaned again. "Stupid men."
