[21] Secrets

Katniss jerks up as I finish attempting to wake her. Her eyes widen and she examines her arms and wrists worriedly.

I'd just gotten home from the doctors. I still don't know what I'm supposed to do about the medication side effects but it'll just have to do.

"PEETA IM SORRY!" She stats sobbing into my arms. What? Why should she be sorry?

I didn't know what to say to her. "I-it's okay."

"NO ITS NOT I ALMOST KILLED MYSELF AND IM PREGNANT AND I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO!!" Woah. Wait. No. What. What did she just say? I need to take this all in. She just told me she almost killed herself and she's, wait, pregnant?

"Katniss what?" How is this true?

"Yes. I'm pregnant and I was locked in the bathroom cutting myself and then you and prim and Haymitch got in and started yelling at me," she says between sobs. Ooooh i see. She was dreaming. That makes a lot more sense now that I know she was dreaming. I wasn't helping Haymitch and prim break into the bathroom.

"Babe, it was a dream. I just got home from the d- from buying us lunch. You just woke up, it's okay." Phew. Caught myself on that one.

"Really?" She asks and looks up at me. I nod. She takes a sigh of relief and hugs me.

Prim bursts in the door, " OH MY GOD WHATS GOING ON!?!" She asks worriedly. Before I get to speak, she starts talking again. "I was over in my room sketching an-and I heard Katniss screaming. I thought I should let her be. Then you got home and she said she was pregnant and trying to kill herself!!" She starts to cry and looks worriedly at Katniss.

"Prim it's okay, shhh, calm down. She was dreaming." I pull her into my arms.

"Oh my gosh thank god, I was terrified!!" She sniffles.

"It's okay," I say to both of them, holding them both in my arms.

*later that night*
Okay. Now I have to start my medicine. I'm really worried about how this will turn out. I hid the pills inside my pillowcase so Katniss won't find them.

I stand in the kitchen, resting my elbows on the counter with my chin in my palms. I'm trying to figure out when to go up without her seeing me.

"Hey, uh Katniss I'm going up to, er, put my pajamas on. I'll be right back." I say. That's a decent excuse, but I guess I actually have to put my pajamas on now.

I basically run up the stairs and into our room only to find Prim fixing the bed. Once again, before I get to speak, she pulls out my pills and shows them to me. "What's this?" She asks coming toward me like she knew I was being sneaky.

"Prim! What are you doing with those!" I didn't know what to say.

"I found them....." She says rising her tone.

"Can you please put them back...." I mimic her.

"Cmon Peeta, what are they for, spill it. I can tell you're trying to hide these form Katniss, I'm not stupid." She chuckles.

"You can't tell her!"

"Ugh I won't just tell me and why you're trying to keep it a secret."

"They're for my "sleep aches" , I went to the doctors earlier and they're for my head aches caused by my lack of energy and sleep. I have to change now."

"You didn't tell me why you're hiding them from Katniss,"

"Well, I didn't tell her I went."

"And that's bad becausee....."

"Well I didn't want her freaking out. It's just the thing I'm worried about is the side effects, they're terrible."

"And they include....."

"Strange thoughts/actions and suicidal thoughts is what it was I'm pretty sure I was told."

Prim's face goes from joking around to serious, "oh." She frowns. "This is between us, your secret is safe with me." She nods and exits the room, leaving me standing there.

I hold the medicine in my shaky hands. Pfhh it's just side effects...... cmon do it. Ugh. Here goes nothing. I go in the bathroom and wash down a single pill as it travels into my body.
