I gasp and cover up my mouth with my hands as I gleam at the delicate ring in the sunset. I then realized, it wasn't just any old diamond ring, but diamonds embroidered surrounding the left and right sides of a pearl. Not just an ordinary one, but the pearl Peeta gave to me in the arena.
"Oh my gosh!" I say between sobs, "this is amazing I-I-," I trail off. I dearly love Peeta to the bottom of my heart this was an easy question.
"Yes!!! I say yes! Oh my gosh! I love you so much!" I cry out. He places the petite ring on my finger and pulls me in for a big hug.
"I love you too," Peeta says, "thank you for always being by my side." His blue eyes glimmered in the moonlight. I just had the largest smile on my face as he said ,"cmon! I was thinking we could stop by Haymitch and Effie's place on the way back, to tell them the news,"
"That would be a terrific idea!" We walked home with our fingers laced together. Ever since we defeated the capitol, Haymitch stopped drinking and developed a relationship with Effie. She basically lives with him now.
As we approach Haymitch's doorstep, we knock twice and enter without approval. Haymitch and Effie are sitting in the couch together and discussing something.
They turn around surprised, but yet welcoming.
"Why hello my dear children," Effie says in her Capitol accent that decides to stick with her. Both her and Haymitch rise from the couch and walk over to us. Effie puts both her hands on my shoulders. "What brings you two here this evening?"
I blush and smile as Haymitch finally reaches us. "Well," is all I can get out over my excitement.
As I flash them my ring, at the same time Peeta blurts out , "surprise! We're getting engaged!"
Effie gasps and covers her mouth. "Oh dear how exciting! Congratulations to the both of you! I'm so happy! I must help you prep for the wedding."
"Well, look what we got here, sweetheart and lover boy finally making it official," Haymitch smirks. He puts a hand on my shoulder, "I'm proud of you. Both of you, for all the way you've came and I'm glad I got to experience it all with you. I love you two."
