Peeta's POV

"Time for dinner!" I exclaim as I try to gather everyone around the dining table. I had made some food, not too much, for us to enjoy.

At this time, Katniss and I are planning on sharing the big news on our engagement tonight. Obviously to those who don't know because Haymitch an Effie know and so do Annie and Finn.

I pat the chair right next to me for Katniss to sit down on. She sits down next to me and flattens her rose-pink dress out on her legs.

I mouth the word 'now' to her and she nods her head in response. I grab her hand and we stand up in front of our seats. All eyes are glued on us as the room falls silent.

I clear my throat.

"Thank you guys for coming here tonight to get together as friends to hang out," I say and glance over at Katniss and nod my head.

"There's something Peeta and I wanted to share with those of you who don't know," Gale rolls his eyes and crosses his arms.

She flashes then her ring and everyone who had no idea gasps and covers their mouth with both hands, the rest just smile and applaud silently.

"We're getting engaged!" We both say. Now the table has bursts of "congratulations" and "awe"s all except for Gale who sighs and sits up faking a smile.

Katniss and I sit down, still holding hands, my right in her left. Everyone starts serving themselves to a delicious dinner.

KATNISS' POV

Aaah, of course out of all the people , out of the obvious, Johanna Mason, stands up. I sigh, knowing this will be quite entertaining.

"I just wanted to say that I'm proud of you two love birds. We've come a long way since we met and I knew this would happen. I love you two like a brother and sister and even though some days is like to put my axe in your face," there it was," brainless, I still love yah."

Johanna bows and sits back down. Everybody sarcastically gives her a round of applause as she winks at us from the other side of the table. Reminds me of the first time we met in the elevator and she winked at us before getting off. Hah.

I love these people to death. I don't know how I could live without them and I'm glad I don't have to.

I stand back up and put my palms on the table. "I just wanted to say that every single one of you, are like part of my family to me. You've all been there every step of the way whenever I needed you. I wouldn't be here today if it weren't for any of you. I'm just so glad to have you all as my family." A tear falls down my face as I sit down and smile at Gale.

"Agreed," says Haymitch as he smirks. "Cheers to the soon-to-be Mellarks!" He says as he raises his glass of water into the air toward the center of the table with everyone joining in.

Peeta and I shared a warm passionate kiss until Cressida interrupts.

"Okay lovers, save this for later," she says with her beautiful smile. I giggle and blush a little but then continue eating like everyone else."

Later on that night
(Still Katniss' POV)

"Hey Catnip I, uh gotta leave its getting pretty late." Gale states.

"Aw I'm sorry," I reply, "that's too bad. Do you want me to walk home with you? No one else will mind."

"Oh, sure!" He exclaims with a slight smile on his face he was hiding. I saw his expressions at the dinner table earlier and I want him to know that I still care, even though I didn't end up with him like we'd expected.

I put on my leather hunting jacket as he gathers his things to head out the door. I announced to everyone that I was waking Gale home and it wouldn't be long till I got back.

They waved farewell to Gale, knowing id be coming back as we marched out the front door into the Autumn night.

"Come here," I whispered to Gale as I showed him around to the back of the house. I pushed him against the wall and started kissing him by surprise. It was long, but on purpose. Not that I had feels for him, but like I said, so he knew I cared.

I pulled back after what felt like twenty seconds and looked him straight in the eyes.

"I still care," I said and hugged him.
