It was a typical day at Nekoma, as the boys volleyball team was practicing in the gymnasium. The squeaks of their shoes could be heard as they run through the court practicing hits and sets. You were forced on the way there with a friend, a crazy friend to be exact.
"So why am I going with you to the gym for your confession?" you had to question her on the way there. Your friend stopped and sighed, "So you can motivate me to actually confess?"
You shrugged and nodded before she dragged you off again. Luckily it was break time for the volleyball team so the two of you weren't an interruption. Your friend met with Kuroo outside while you enter to avoid being the eavesdropper. Your eyes searched the gymnasium to see a lot of boys drenched in sweat. They were staring at you, and it made you feel uneasy. You turned to look out the door and waited. Suddenly there was a shout from behind. You turned and with that same exact moment someone jumped in front of you. It ended with a volleyball colliding with the floor and a team member turning to look at you.
"Are you okay?" he asked. His short light caramel hair was shining for some odd reason and the light from outside made him look like some god. You slowly nodded your head and backed away.
"A-ah thank you," you added. He gave you a soft smile before turning feriously around.
"Oi! Lev!" he shouted and from afar you could see him attack the taller team member that was twice his size. You couldn't help but chuckled and realized, "Asa hasn't come back yet..."
Your stomach churned and you quickly headed out the door praying that your friend didn't leave you behind. When you turned the corner of the gym, you saw her and Kuroo hugging. A sigh of relief escaped your mouth and you smiled, "Hey newly love birds!"
Asa turned and her face turned a brighter red.
"I think break is over for the team," you mentioned. Kuroo and Asa awkwardly smile. He pat her head and smiled before leaving. When he was out of sight you gave Asa the thumbs up and on the way home she told you everything.●●●
With Asa dating Kuroo now, it was often that you met up with her afterschool in the gymnasium making it often for you and Yaku to cross paths. You questioned why his uniform was a different color and found out he was the libero of the team. Watching him during practice, you were amazed he could get all the drops. He was like a cat. Quick and swift. You hadn't realize how long you were staring at Yaku until Asa elbowed you.
"You know I could hook you up with Yaku if you're interested," she tried to hide her excited face. You immediately turned to her and denied that you were staring at Yaku.
"I was just amaze at his skills," you clarified and nodded. "His reflexes are like that of a cat."
"Sure," Asa chuckled and nodded. You ended up staying until practice ended with Asa only to forget that you would be walking home alone. You bid goodbye to Asa and Kuroo before turning to head for the door. Asa on the other hand ran to Yaku once you were out of sight.
"Yaku-san, right?" she asked. Yaku looked at Asa and nodded, "Ah, yes. Is there something you need?"
"You see um my friend (L/N)-san is walking home alone and I was wondering you could walk with her since it's late. You two walk the same way right?"
"(L/N)-san?" Yaku tilted his head before realizing who it was. "Yeah, I could walk her home. Where is she?"
"She left already," Asa replied. Yaku widened his eyes and stumbled around to get his bag. He quickly bid goodbye to the coach and members before leaving out the door. Luckily you weren't out of the campus yet. He caught up to you in no time and greeted you.
"Hello (L/N)-san!" he bowed quickly and glance to look at your shocked face. You held your chest, surprised that he was there.
"Do you mind if I walk with you home?" he asked and sheepishly smiled. Your head nodded without even thinking. He chuckled and began walking ahead.
"A-ah you live the same way?" you returned back and asked while catching up to him. He nodded and smiled, "I live in the complex near Toshi's Market."
"Toshi's Market?!" you widened your eyes. "T-That's where I live!"
He widened his eyes just as surprised as you were. It ended with some laughs as you two continued down the path.
"All this time I never knew we lived in the same apartment complex," you still couldn't believe it. Yaku nodded his head the two of you stopped at the red light. It became quiet after that. The cars drove by as their lights flashed. Yaku stared down to look at you and his heart skipped a beat. Your hair was flowing with the wind that had been created by the fast cars and your eyes were sparkling. You turned to look at him and he immediately glanced to the side pretending to look around while hiding his red face.
"(L/N)-san..." Yaku said and looked at you but you had pointed at the sign of the white walking figure indicating that it was time to cross. You jumped down from the curb and headed off first. Yaku followed behind and noticed a car drovong towards you. He was expecting it to slow down and stop, bit the speed had only increased. He immediately ran for you and grabbed your arm. He pulled you away and into his embrace as the car drove past. The only thing heard was his heavy breathing and your fast beating heart.
"That was close," he sighed in relief. "Are you okay?"
He pulled you back and made sure you were alright before making way to the other side of the crosswalk. You bowed and thanked him. He shook his head, "It's okay, as long as you weren't badly injured."
You nodded and both of you walked past Toshi's Market before entering the apartment complex. You lived on the top floor while Yaku lived on the botton floor. He walked you to the elevator and waited with you.
"Thank you for today Yaku-san," you mentioned before the door opened. Yaku gave you his usualy bright smile and nodded, "You're welcome (L/N)-san!"
You entered and turned to face him. Your fingers reached for the buttom of your floor and your pressed it. The doors slowly closed as you waved goodbye to him. But as the door was midway closing, his body slipped through and collided with yours. The elevator door shut tight and began moving up.
"A-ah!" Yaku backed away quickly and apologized. You told him it was alright but was confused of why he did that. He then laughed it off and said that he slipped but you both knew it wasn't going to work.
"I-I just wanted to ask if you could maybe...watch my game next weekend?" he asked. You laughed at him and nodded, "I would love to, but was it so urgent to have to slid through closing doors for?"
He thought about it and shook his head, "That's cause I wanted to be with you a bit longer."
Your heart began beating furiously from his words and your mind went blank for a second.
"Ah sorry I said something stupid again," he bowed as the door opened. "See you tomorrow (L/N)-san."
You returned back to your mind and nodded, "Ah, see you Yaku-san..."
Your legs slowly walked out and you turned to glance at him.
"You know Yaku-san, can we walk to school together tomorrow?" you asked. His smiled appeared on his face and both of you chuckled. You two bid goodnight before the doors of the elevator closed and went to bed with a pounding heart indicating the spark of a new beginning.●●●
