"Detective Iwaizumi!" the news press shouted as they were trying to get ahold of Iwaizumi.
"How do you feel now that the 'night killer' is finally behind bars?!"
"Will the 'night killer' be sentenced for execution?!"
Police assistance helped block the press while Iwaizumi ignored them and headed into the police department building.
"Hey," his partner greeted him. "Chief stated that you had a couple days off. You don't have to be here Hajime."
Iwaizumi nodded, "You don't have to worry about me, Keiji. We have a report to write."
Akaashi watched as his partner walked away and towards his desk. He knew his friend well and that although this case was already closed and the culprit was caught, Iwaizumi was still trying to put on a strong image that he is fine. Sighing, Akaashi grabbed his files and left for his desk which is adjacent to Iwaizumi's.
There was a huge pile of files on Iwaizumi's desk, all from the 'night killer' case. He sorted them out and eventually started on his report. It was long and to Iwaizumi a certain part of the report made him feel as though he was suffocating. His heart filled with the pain he tried so hard to forget. Iwaizumi's hand stopped and dropped the pen.
"Take a break and get some fresh air," Akaashi mentioned from the side. Iwaizumi stood up and grabbed his coat. He looked up and there by the entrance of the building was you. A small smile appeared on his lips and suddenly the pain he felt in his heart was no longer there. You waved and pointed outside, indicating that you'll wait out there for him. Iwaizumi closed his report and files before shoving them into his desk drawer and heading out.
"I thought I told you to stop--" Iwaizumi said in a half-worried and half-relieved tone.
"I can't help it," you gave him a soft smile. "It's tough for you isn't it?"
Iwaizumi thought about his work and didn't reply. You nodded and walked ahead, "Why don't you try going to some therapy lessons?"
"(F/N), I-I can't," he replied. You stopped and turned to look at him, "It will help you Hajime, just try going."
He sighed and saw that you only wanted what's best for him. Iwaizumi knew you were worried about his well being.
"Fine, I'll find someone..." he mumbled. "Let's go get something to eat."
You nodded and the two of you left for a small lunch at a nearby diner. The bells by the door rung as the two of you entered and took at seat at an empty table. The waitress came by and knew the usual orders since the diner was and has always been your go-to place to eat.
"This place always gives me the bubbly feelings," you chuckled as your eyes glanced around the diner. "We first met at this diner. You were such a klutz back then when you first started that detective job."
You laughed remembering all that had happened that day. Iwaizumi nodded, "I spilled my drink on you while rushing out because my boss and I got a call about an attack."
"You left me drenched in tea," you reminded him. He chuckled, "I told you my name and promised that I'd make up for it if you came by the police department."
"And I did, because what woman would easily forgive that kind of incident?" you chuckled and so did Iwaizumi. Your conversations was cut when the waitress came by with the food. You both thanked her and continued the conversation. Soon enough the lunch hour was over and Iwaizumi had to head back to finishing his report. You bid him goodbye and that you'll be waiting at home for him.
Iwaizumi made it back to work and pulled his report and files out. He tried to continue writing it but his mind was filled with scenes of the case and once again his heart began to feel as though someone was piercing a knife into it. With the distractions, Iwaizumi closed his report that he couldn't continued and stared at his computer. With the time he had, Iwaizumi looked up about theraphy sessions and all things related to it. As much as it hurts, Iwaizumi knew that sooner or later he was going to end up there to talk about him. He was able to book an appointment for tomorrow and decided to prepare himself.

The next morning Iwaizumi woke up to an empty room. You were nowhere in sight and he freaked out a bit. He found you in the living room of the condo playing with Aoba, the golden retriever you both took care of. Iwaizumi was out of breath, but sighed in relief.
"Are you okay?" you looked at him confused. He nodded, "I-I couldn't find you and thought--"
You stood up and gave him a genuine smile, "You know I won't go away. I'm always here, Hajime."
He dropped to the floor and covered his face. You widened your eyes and quickly rushed to him, "Hajime!"
"I-I'm okay," he said and slowly removed his hand from blocking his eyes. He saw your worried face and apologized.
"Hey, how many times do I have to tell you to stop apologizing to me?" you caressed his face. "You did nothing wrong. Now don't you need to get ready for that therapy appointment?"
Iwaizumi nodded and helped himself up. He made breakfast and ate before changing and preparing himself. Once he was done, he pat Aoba's head and with a deep breath he made his way out the door with you beside him. He got into his car and drove off to the building where his appointment was.
Iwaizumi parked his car and as he made his way to the floor of the therapist, his heart grew heavy and his lungs felt as though they were out of air.
"You'll be okay," you reminded him. But it didn't sound like your voice.
Iwaizumi's eyes shot open. Before him was the therapist and you were by the door.
"Your symptoms are equivalent to those of schizophrenia," the therapist stated and came to a conclusion. She handed Iwaizumi a slip for prescriptions.
"How will this help?" he asked. The therapist gave Iwaizumi a soften look, "It'll help make her disappear."
Iwaizumi widened his eyes and shook his head, "N-No you don't understand, I-I can't eat these."
"Iwaizumi-san, in order to maintain a healthy mind and for you to stay in the police department, you'll have to take these," the therapist said. Iwaizumi looked up at you.
"Do you want this, (F/N)?" he asked. With a heavy heart you nodded, "You can't keep staying in one spot Hajime. There's a whole world out there waiting for you, I don't want to be that person holding you back. That night was never your fault, so don't beat yourself up about it. In the next life, let's meet and fall in love all over again, okay?"
"(F/N)..." Iwaizumi's tears fell from his eyes. His hand clutched his heart as he constantly apologized to you. Iwaizumi knew working as a detective meant facing a lot of risks and because of that he always made sure you were okay. He never wanted to know what the other side would be like, the other side of a world without you. And in the end, he did.
