"Hey Lea, how about going roller-skating this evening?" Julie asks me, right before Mrs. Moustache (A.K.A our French teacher) comes into the class.
"You know that I don't know how to roller-skate." I remind her.
"But you can learn, c'mon it will be fun." She insists.
Julie is really stubborn.
The most stubborn person I've ever known.
That's why she's my best friend.
"Okay then, but just the two of us?" I ask her.
"We can invite people to come, but do you want HE to come?" she looks puzzled.
"He's my friend... I think, and the fact that he's with Bella doesn't change our friendship."
My voice doesn't tremble.
But I still know that this is not true.
I can't even see him right now.
My heart hurts every time he laughs with Bella.
And the way they look at each other... it just wrecks me from the inside.
"You can say that out loud, but I know what you're really thinking." Julie assures me.
I look down.
How can something so common like love someone hurt this much?
"I'll ask the boys If they want to come." She goes away, leaving me with loads of thoughts.
I see her talking with Ian, Paul, and Charles.
I know she likes one of them, she told me when we were still in 2th grade.
I still laugh about it since then.
I suddenly see her come back.
"Lea, they all come." She smiles.
"Okay... where do we meet then?" I question.
"In the old school?"
The old school is where we studied before we had to go to the high school.
I love that place.
It brings me nice memories.
Memories where my parents where still by my side.
"Sure." I answer.
As we observe the teacher writing something on the whiteboard, I'm listening Julie saying something about her crush, not paying much attention because Lucas got all of it.
He's kind of gorgeous this morning.
I stop a moment and think.
WTF?
When did I become Julie? Melting for boys?
I'm not like this.
And I don't want to.
"Guys, we're in the most beautiful season of the year, CHRISTMAS¡ So for next week we're going to make the Invisible Friend's gift."
The invisible friend's gift.
Cool.
Everyone start to reply with bad words, feeling lazy.
"And what are we supposed to do? Buy presents like little children?" Someone at the back shouts.
"It's a beautiful thing to do. You're all classmates and friends, there's nothing wrong on give something to each other one day." She smirks, all happy.
