Laura's pov
I rummaged through my bags and started taking out my stuff. It was kind of Mark to take us in, but why? I really don't understand. There's definitely something more to it.
He already had, like, 5 kids! Why would he want to add 3 more to the family? Suddenly, Rydel burst into my room, crying. Without even realizing that I was in the room, she fell on the bed and started sobbing.
"What is his problem?! Just as I was starting to like him a bit!" as she started at the ceiling, I coughed to announce my presence in the room.
"Oh my god! So sorry, I didn't notice that it was your room. So sorry, Laura!" Rydel tried to smile but failed and burst into tears.
"It- it just hurts so much!" I pulled her into a hug as she broke down. "Oh god, look at me. You don't even care about me, and here I am, crying and being a burden and-"
I cut her off before she could continue rambling. "Look, I don't know you well, but I still care about you, okay?"
"E-rat is your brother." She whispered. "E-rat? You mean, Ellington?" I smiled. "E-Rat. Seriously? E-Rat? E-Rat!" I tried to stifle my laughter, but ended up laughing. "What's so funny?" Rydel asked.
"Rat. Hahahah. Nothing, just forget it." I waved a hand. "Okaaay." Rydel looked unconvinced. "So, umm, I was wondering if you knew a converse shop here, my old ones are completely worn out."
"Of course I know. I'm not a shopping fan, but I can accompany you. I've got to buy some stuff anyway." She shrugged. "Cool. Thanks. But, can we stop at the book store and the music shop too? Pleeeaassee!!" I smiled widely as tapped her finger on her chin and pretended to think.
"Okay." I squealed, jumping onto her. "But, only on one condition." Rydel laughed and pulled out of my embrace. "What's it?" I raised my eyebrows.
"Uhhh, I haven't thought of one yet." She admitted sheepishly. "But, don't worry; I'll have it planned out." After that, she winked at me and left the room. I know she was trying to hide it, but she was hurting from the inside.
Something was wrong.
