Shawn's POV:
"Are you sure it's even? I don't want them all messed up. It won't be enough for her if even one of them is messed up," I rushed, making Aaliyah fix the paper cups on the counter.
The frozen yogurt place had agreed to let me use their shop for one hour maximum, as long as I cleaned up. And paid forty dollars.
I was so nervous.
I planned to ask Grace out, but what if she said no? What if she thinks back to the first time I brought her here? What if there's someone better?
Granted, there most likely is. I've been a real asshole to her for the past couple months and I haven't regretted anything more.
Everything in the shop looked perfectly normal, except for the counter. But, she probably wouldn't notice it, because she always goes to the back first before grabbing a cup.
The manager even let me use their radio, so I made sure it was on a channel that contained only Ed Sheeran. Grace loved him, and I thought he was a pretty good singer too, so hopefully she notices the songs that are playing after I ask.
I glanced at the time, seeing I had about six minutes before she arrived. "Ugh!" I yelled, running a hand through my hair.
This had to be amazing. I had a speech I created relaying in my head, praying I wouldn't stumble over my words and she wouldn't reject me. I sat down at our usual booth we always sit at, rubbing my head softly.
I heard the doorbell chime as she opened the door, making my face go blank. She seemed confused at first but sat down anyways.
"Forgot your money again?" She laughed, and I couldn't help but let out a soft chuckle. I stood, her body turning towards mine in her seat.
"Shawn," She questioned, "What's going on?"
I took in a deep breath.
"I know you're confused and this seems weird, but I have something to tell you.
"I will never stop apologizing for the way I treated you. It was absolutely shitty and there isn't a day I don't think about it or not regret it. Though you said you forgive me, I want you to know what I did wasn't okay.
"But, I can't help liking you. I couldn't stop thinking about you ever since that day you left my house after you found the note I wrote. I felt so empty when you left me. I stared at you in class, missing all of my notes and trying to figure out a way to talk to you.
"We went weeks without speaking, and that was truly hell. Though, I don't usually spill my feelings everywhere, you make me want to. I want to gush over how beautiful you are and how the sound of your name makes me smile.
"Since we're not dating, it's not right I call you baby or tell that to you constantly. So, I, Shawn Mendes, would be ecstatic if you would do me the honor of saying yes."
I stepped away from the table, nodding slightly. Aaliyah quickly removed the cover from the countertop, revealing the message I wrote.
Will you be my girlfriend?
The question was spelt out in yogurt cups on the section where the toppings would typically be. She got up quickly, gaping at it.
"Did you clean the counter before placing these down?" She asked, and when my face dropped, she laughed. "Yes, I, Grace Winters, will do you the honor of saying yes."
I immediately hugged her, rocking back and forth softly. "Thank you so much," I squeezed her once more before letting go, smiling down at her.
"Can we eat some frozen yogurt too?" She asked, making me chuckle softly and nod. We walked over, grabbing a cup on the counter. "I'm glad you actually asked me out," She admitted as she filled her cup with chocolate frozen yogurt.
"I am too, because god, that was nerve racking," I laughed, adding some cookie dough bites to top off my treat.
She just blushed lightly and shook her head, adding brownie bites to hers. "Does this place know we're eating their profits?"
I checked the time on my phone and shook my head. "We have fifteen more minutes here so we've got time to clean up before they notice." We laughed, going back and adding more yogurt to our cups.
"Thank you for helping," She smiled at Aaliyah before we sat, making her blush.
"Do your parents know who I am?" Grace asked, scooping a bite into her mouth.
"Yeah, kind of? Briefly mentioned, I guess. Since they're gone on a business trip." I shrugged, eating some of my treat as well.
"Thank you for this, it's amazing." She said after a moment of silence.
"Anything for my princess."
