More than a little lie

It was more than just
a little lie
escaping your mouth
for there's "no choice."

Your words
they seemed like flowers
blooming in new spring.
But they all turned out
to be the snakes,
waiting for their time
to devour.

You disguised your actions
with the sweetness of touch.
Until I realise
it was all a ploy
to wrap your hands
around my neck
as I struggle to breathe in air.

You eyes used to speak
what your heart would every say,
or at least that's what I thought.
All along,
you taught them to seem so warm
despite your chest
surrounded by cold.

I thought you were the one
who calmed the fires
I can't control.
But you decided
to take them down instead
with the ice

deep in your bones.

You say that
your ears hear nothing
but the truth,
the real,
and that of my voice.
But then, I realised,
maybe all
you ever hear
is yourself.

I thought you entwined
our hands together

so we wouldn't fall apart.
But what you did was
you tied my hands together
and leaving me trapped.

I thought you loved me,
but in truth,
I was a dove
in your cage.

It was more than a little lite.
It was more than what you think
it is.
It was more than what
it seems
to be.
