Rylie's POV:
After Jenna's friend Elisa checked out Josh and Tyler, Jenna had gone to the store to get some things for the now beat up boys. Tyler had a pretty nasty black eye, and Josh had a minor concussion. Because of the concussion, Josh couldn't: be exposed to bright light, drive, have any electronics, and couldn't be around loud noises. He couldn't even sleep until tomorrow because apparently his brain could swell. I couldn't help but feel like this was my fault. I hurt everybody that I touch, which is probably why my dad left. That's why I got beaten up by my drunken mother; I deserved it. I told Josh I wouldn't sleep until he could, and after a few of his protests, he gave in to the idea. Currently I'm sitting on the couch, with Josh's head on my lap. He was trying so hard not to fall asleep, and his tired eyes were actually kinda cute. I couldn't help but to play with his hair a little. He started to doze off, and I decided that ten minutes of sleep wouldn't hurt him. I glanced over at Tyler, who was currently playing games on his phone. I wanted to talk to him about what I overheard from the argument, but that would also mean admitting to eavesdropping. I pulled out my phone and decided to send him a text:
R: Hey can I ask you something? He looked up from his game at me confused, and began to type.
T: Sure..?
R: Do you hate me?
T: No, what made you think that?
R: Well, I heard you guy's fight this morning, and then you ignored me the entire car ride over here.... I'm sorry, I shouldn't have asked. Forget it
T: look, I don't hate you. After we found out that you lied, I'll admit, I was pissed. I thought you were just using us. Josh is my best friend, and quite honestly, I consider him my brother. I have to protect him. Josh and I took care of everything, and I don't hate you.
R: Okay, I'm sorry that I lied Tyler... I just didn't want to hurt you guys, or have you pity me.
T: I understand that now. I hope that we can be friends?
R: For sure :)
T: Cool! Hey, Josh isn't supposed to be sleeping, we should wake him up.
R: yea, I'll do it. I jus thought that ten minutes wouldn't hurt.
T: okay
I locked my phone and put it down on the coffee table. I started tracing circles on Josh's forehead, and he stirred. A few seconds later, he slowly opened his eyes and smiled.
"Hey" he said in a groggy voice.
"Hello Joshy" I said
"Can I sleep for a few more minutes?" He whined.
"Do you want your brain to swell?" I asked sarcastically.
"Ugh, no I guess not" he groaned. I couldn't help but to smile and his childish ways. Tyler looked up from his phone, and smirked. My phone buzzed and I picked it up.New message from Tylerrrrr: 😏
I felt my face burn red, looked up at his smirking face and threw a pillow at him. He stuck his tongue out at me and got up to get a drink. Josh giggled quietly before closing his eyes again. I went back to playing with his hair.
" Ry?" He asked.
"Yes Joshy?"
"I like it when you play with my hair, it makes me calm. Can I sleep for a few more minutes? Pleaseeeee?" He asked. I looked down at him and saw his puppy dog eyes.
"Fine, but only five minutes. And you can't tell Jenna, or she might kill me" I said.
"DEAL" he said, closing his eyes. A few seconds later, I watched his chest rise, and fall in a steady, slow pattern, and knew he was asleep. Tyler came back into the room, and went to sleep as well. My eyes felt heavy, and I soon fell asleep.
Jenna's POV:
I piled the rest of the bags of groceries into the car, and headed to Josh's. I had gotten everything that Elisa told me to get: Frozen peas, Headache (Migraine) relief, a thermometer, some tea, and some gauze pads for Rylie's stitches. After a short drive I pulled up to Josh's, parked, gathered all of the bags, and headed towards the door. I grabbed the spare key from under the drumming garden gnome, and unlocked the door. I stepped into the house. It was silent.
" Honey I'm homeeee" I sang. No response. That's weird. I thought to myself. I went into Josh's living room, and sure enough, all of them were passed out. Elisa said Josh could sleep if he really needed to, but only in hour intervals. I grinned before pulling out my phone, snapping a pic, and posting it on Instagram. I heard three phone notifications, and laughed. Tyler was sprawled out on the floor, Josh was asleep on Rylie's lap, and Rylie was sleeping with her head resting in one of her hands. Her and Josh would be really freakin cute together. I went into the kitchen, and unloaded the groceries.
Josh's POV:
I woke up some time later to Jenna shaking my softly. I wiped the grogginess out of my eyes and looked up at a sleeping Rylie. I smiled to myself. Jenna handed me some pills and a bottled water.
" they'll help with your head" she explained. I nodded my head, and took the pills.
" Thanks Jenna" I said. She smiled at me.
" No problem JOSHY" she said. I laughed a little at the nickname Rylie gave me.
"You know, you two would be really cute Josh. I ship it!" Jenna said, still smiling.
"Yea, she's pretty great" I said. Jenna giggled and got up to make us dinner. I couldn't help but think about how much I already like Rylie... I think I may even love her. She's the one who can make me whole again. I gazed up at her bruised face, and placed a soft kiss to her cheek.
" I love you Rylie" I said before laying back down, and letting sleep take me once again.
