The school week flew by and soon it was Friday, this was the day Brett and Jason would have their first date. To a fair, the classic date place. After school, Jesse helped Brett get ready, and everything she was wearing screamed summer, from her orange tie-dye crop top to her white short-shorts and brown sandals. When Jason pulled in, she kissed her dad good bye before he could say anything about her outfit and brushed off her mother’s last minute primping.
“Hey Babe.” Jason said as Brett sat down in his car. He leaned over obviously wanting a kiss, but Brett backed up and motioned to her father watching them from his study. Jason saluted to the old man, then pulled out of their drive way and cranked up the music. The couple, if they could call themselves that yet, sang cheesy songs all the way to the fair and Brett felt she was living the perfect example of what life should be. But then Jason had to go and ruin it. They parked a little off from the fair, and Jason took off his seatbelt and reached over for Bretts.
“What a chivalric lad I’m dating.” Brett commented.
“A what?” he said reaching for Brett’s face so he could cup it in his hands.
“Nevermi-” was all Brett could get out before their lips touched once more. This time Brett couldn’t get into the kiss, everything felt wrong. The seat was leaned to far back, the shift gear was poking her, and Jason didn’t seem to want to stop. When his hands went up her shirt the first time, Brett pushed them back down. When they went up a second time Brett shoved them back down. And when they went up a third time, Brett shoved him off of her.
“I don’t want to do this here.”
“Goodness Brett, why are you so friggin expensive? Where do you want to do it then, in a gaudy five star hotel?”
“What if I don’t want to do this at all?” Brett asked timidly. Jason looked at her surprised, and sat back in his seat awkwardly.
“Sorry, I had just always assumed that was what you wanted.”
“Well its not.”
Jason looked at her with a guilty pout on his face. “I promise I won’t try anymore, all you had to do was tell me that.” He said begging for her forgiveness.
The two of them got out the car, and Jason did everything in his power to win Brett’s trust back. He won her a huge stuffed bear, three tiny bears, a goldfish, and a pair of cheesy dice for her car. He bought her cotton candy and a corn dog, and he even guided her over a puddle on the floor. When the night ended, Jason dropped her off at curfew and didn’t try any funny business. And as Brett walked up the stairs to her room, she couldn’t help feeling yet again that this was what her life was supposed to be like.
