You finally had sex with Jason? Way to go Brettbaby ;) Brett looked down at the message from Heather on her way to the school building. She silently cursed at her lack of thought. Of course Jason would tell everyone he’d finally nailed the most popular girl in school. Silently hoping Simon would never hear of the news, she walked into the hallway and could feel people’s stares.

Brett wasn’t imagining the mix of condemning and approving looks she was receiving from her classmates. Someone even flashed her a thumbs up. How many people had Jason told? Brett rushed to the corner her friends always hung in, and pulled Jason aside with force.

“You told?” she inquired, her voice raising a few octaves nearing hysterics.

“No! Well, not technically.”

“Not technically? Elaborate.”

“John asked me why I hadn’t come to the team annual hazing last night, and I told him why, not really thinking he’d tell the rest of the school.” Jason said rubbing the back of his head. Brett glared at him, and wondered what she had found so intriguing about Jason in previous years. He hadn’t even had the decency to wait for her to wake up yesterday. Brett felt repulsed around him, and stormed away from him as soon as Jesse arrived at school.

She grabbed her best friend’s arm, and noticed her demeanor had changed. She followed Brett stiffly, and seemed to be holding in a lot of emotions. Brett sat down on a bench outside where the busses passed, and glared at Amaranth who walked by smiling smugly.

“I thought you liked Simon.” Jesse said tapping her foot impatiently. She looked like she wanted to scream at Brett, and for a moment Brett had a feeling not even Jesse wanted her.

“I do.” Brett sighed running a hand through her hair.

“So why’d you have sex with Jason? Don’t you think Simon’s going to hear about it?”

“No. He won’t. I’ll make sure of it. Simon’s oblivious to school gossip.” Brett said reassuring herself. Jesse rolled her eyes and began to walk away.

“Jesse, is something wrong?”

“No, I just don’t feel like listening to you vent about your problems again. You’re not the only one on earth with issues, you know. I think, I need to be by myself for a while.” Jesse said avoiding Brett’s eyes.

“Okay,” Brett looked at the yellow school busses in front of her, “you’re still coming to Blake’s wedding Saturday right?”

“My parents are making me.” Jesse said turning on her heels to walk away. In class, Brett didn’t feel like listening to the teachers drone on about things that had happened in the past. Her life was a mess, and she was slowly loosing anyone who would care about her.

In art class, Brett almost felt like crying when Simon walked in carrying a bouquet of roses. He handed Brett the flowers outside of the class, and enveloped her into a hug.

“I’m sorry about the other night. I shouldn’t keep pushing you away like that.” He said into her hair. Brett trembled in his arms, and was sure she was going to throw up right there. He obviously still didn’t know about what happened the same night, and Brett wasn’t sure if she felt relived or was afraid she was prolonging the inevitable.

“You don’t have to forgive me now, but I promise I’ll work everyday until you do.” He said stepping back to brush a strand of Brett’s hair back .

“Simon I-I forgive you.” Brett said feeling the guilt swallowing her whole. He was asking for her forgiveness, when it should be the total opposite way around. He’d given her a bouquet of roses, where as Jason hadn’t even stayed long enough for her to wake up. What had she done.
