“Have you had sex?”
The time for a family brunch with Jason had come, and Brett’s mother was asking questions like a detective on a case. Brett was embarrassed to the point where she wanted to crawl under a table, and Jason looked like he was ready to run.
“With who?” Jason inquired.
“With who? My daughter that’s who!”
He gave Brett a panicked look and shook his head furiously.
“Mother I think your scaring him!” Brett said trying to calm her mom.
“But you have had sex? How many girls? Do you have any STDS, AIDS, none of that matters because you’ll never sleep with my daughter anyway!”
“Mom that’s enough!”
“Honey, I’m just trying to figure out why he’s got such a control on you. Do you love him? Is that why you keep going to him when you get mad at us?” The woman said a little frazzled. She was no longer a poised politicians wife, but a mother bear out to protect her cub. Even Brett’s father was staring at his wife as if she were an alien.
“Jennifer let me handle this, your emotions are getting out of hand.” Brett’s dad said. Her mom sat down angrily and tried to maintain any dignity she had left.
“We would just like to know what your plans are with our daughter. She has come home numerous nights with those kissing marks.”
Jason cocked an eyebrow and looked over at Brett and back to Mr. Witte.
“Numerous nights?” Jason inquired.
“Yes numerous nights. I know you didn’t think we’d notice honey, but you had another one just last night.” Brett felt like she was going to throw up, her dad needed to stop talking, now!
“Mr. Witte I can assure that you will never find those marks on your daughter again. It was just a moment of passion, nothing more. I don’t plan to have sex with your daughter, she’s already made it clear that will never happen. I just genuinely like Brett, in the purest sense.” Jason said holding her father’s eyes.
“You promise you guys will stick to good old fashioned kissing. No more?”
“Yes sir, I myself will make sure of it.”
“Okay Jennifer I don’t know about you, but that’s a good enough answer for me.” He father said addressing his wife.
“What John no! You’re going to trust his word? They’re teenagers, think back to when we were teens!”
“And what would you have me do, forbid him from seeing her? Jason is as good as a guy as any girl could get in this county, be glad our daughter did.”
“Your father and I need to have a talk. We will be right back, and no funny business.” Brett’s mother said signaling for her father to follow. The man followed his wife somberly to another room in the restaurant.
Jason turned to face Brett and leaned his head on his hand to gaze at her lazily. “Numerous nights?” He said cocking an eyebrow.
“My parents were just confused, it was probably smudged make up.
“How would smudged make up get all the way on your neck Brett?” Jason asked, leaning over to run his hand along her neck. Brett backed away as a line of make up came off on his thumb revealing the mark.
