The sound of sweet songbirds chirping didn’t wake up Brett the next morning, instead she was hit in the head with a blow dryer.
“Sorry.” Miranda said grimacing at Brett. Brett rubbed her forehead and noticed a bump was forming where the contraption had struck. Her room was busy with people filing in and out of the door to her bathroom. Her shower and bathtub were both being used, not to mention that women trying to do their makeup covered her entire row of mirrors.
“Wake up sleepy head.” Barbie said trying to apply mascara to her eyelashes. Brett glanced at her sister, and got out of bed groggily. Brett motioned to the pile of boxes with her eyes and Barbie shrugged.
“There were no packages today.” She said waddling out of the room. Brett got out of bed, and waited in the long line to get ready. She almost considered bathing outside with the hose, but was surprised to see the toddlers had beaten her to it.
When Brett had finally bathed, and had changed into flannel pajamas and a T-shirt, she walked down stairs. The place was even busier than upstairs, Blake sat in the kitchen in a robe getting her make-up done. And Brett’s mother was trying to tie Kimmie’s hair into a bow, and clip a bow-tie onto Tyler at the same time.
“Help.” She mouthed trying to keep them both still. Brett bent down and fixed the bow on Kimmie’s hair. She was going to serve as a flower girl today, but was in no mood to be stuffed into a dress. She flopped on the floor and began to cry for her mother. Tyler, the ring bearer for today’s events, gave Kimmie an annoyed look and toddle away to find his mother. Even at three, the kid was more like Ben than Brett had thought.
“Do you want to go get ready? I can watch over things for a while.” Brett said to her mother. The woman smiled, and patted her daughter’s head before heading upstairs. Brett walked around the kitchen helping people find breakfast, and where their belongings were. A news crew came in prepared to stay with the family for the whole day for Brett’s dad’s family segment, and Brett introduced them to various members of her family. Before she knew it, Blake was rushing her upstairs to get into her dress, and people were waiting on her to go.
Sliding into the hideous green trash bag, Brett stuck her tongue out at the frumpy dress. It looked worse than she had imagined, and even with makeup on and her hair curled, Brett still thought she looked like a nightmare.
“Don’t worry about the dress.” Barbie said coming into Brett’s room to give her a hug. Brett noted that Barbie was getting bigger and bigger everyday, she could barely even wrap her arms around her.
“That kid should have been due long ago.” Brett said pointing to Barbie’s stomach after the hug.
“True, he should be due any day now.” She said taking Brett’s hand. Brett helped her waddle down the steps, and couldn't help but to wonder if Will would be there when the baby came.
“What about Will?” she said voicing her question aloud.
“He should be due to arrive any day now too.” Barbie said flinching, and Brett knew that Barbie was the one keeping the baby from coming. She wanted Will to be there for the birth of their second child, and was doing everything she could to make that happen.
“Can I get a picture?” Brett’s mother asked once everyone was outside. Aunts, Uncles, and family friends milled around holding cameras to their faces. They all took pictures of Blake first, then Blake and the brides’ maids. Kimmie seemed to be back to normal, and was terrorizing Tyler across the lawn.
