On Monday morning, Brett unbraided the braid her mother had done last night. The untwisted braid allowed for her hair to cascade down her back in waves. It was naturally wavy, but she straightened it so much that no one would be able to tell. Pulling on a light denim collard shirt, a beige blazer, and the same white shorts and brown sandals she wore on Friday, Brett got her book bag and headed to the kitchen. Before she left the house, she found her mom trying to make a healthy smoothie.

“Mom I thought about the surgery last night, and I just want you to know that I’ll get it.”

The woman dropped the blender and it shattered upon impact with the counter. “You will?!” She asked shocked.

“Yeah, I will, but I want to go alone okay?”

“Of course, anything to get you to go. My baby is going to look just like us now!” she said hugging Brett. “You look cute by the way, and hurry up before you’ll be late. Love you!” her mother yelled as Brett ran out of the house and into her car, she replied with an I love you too and drove calmly to school for once. Art was her first period again, and now that her and Simon were okay, she was actually excited for the class. She was maybe even a bit too excited.

“Brett you look so cute today!” Jesse said running up to her. Heather came bouncing up and smacking her gum agreeing with Jesse.

“Thanks girls, you two look totes adorbs too.”

The rest of their clique moved over to them, and began to talk about Chloe’s up coming party.

“It’s like a new school year bash, like its gonna be so rad. College guys are even like coming.” Heather said smacking her gum between each like.

Colette, one of Brett’s friends with a history of dating college guys screamed with delight. And the whole entire group got even more excited.

“Girls we can all get ready at my house Saturday, and make a day of it. I’ll tell my mom to even bring the Private Spa company.” Brett added.

“Gosh, it’s great having rich friends.” Colette added. And they all laughed again. The bell rang, and Brett escorted Jesse to photography, then quickly sprinted into Art right before the final bell rang.

“Miss Witte if this is going to become a reoccurring habit, don't bother showing up to class.” Ms. Tammy hissed from the front of the room. Today she taught them a lesson they had to incorporate into their final art piece. It was pottery. Ms. Tammy worked the clay expertly and everyone marveled at her professional skill. When the lesson was over, they all applauded and Ms. Tammy bowed.

“There are three pottery stations in here, and six in the other room, and one in another room. Choose your stations children.”

Brett motioned to Simon to head to the other rooms, but Ms. Tammy stopped them abruptly.

“Because you are always late to my class Miss Witte, I’d like you and Simon to work in here. So I can watch you, criticize you, and see if you’re even artist material.”

Brett pursed her lips and defiantly sat down in one of the three stations in the room. The piercing girl from the other day, dragged her art partner to the stool next to their station, and Brett rolled her eyes. Her art partner was chubby and shy, and cowered behind Piercing girl at Brett’s eye roll.

“Hi my name is Amaranth.” Piercing girl said extending her hand out to Brett. What kind trickery was this? Was Brett supposed to shake her hand? What if there was some kind of shock buzz wrist on it, that would ruin Brett’s hair and embarrass her. What kind of game was this girl playing? Brett took her hand suspiciously and introduced herself.
