Bethany took off running down the darkened beach. Her tears clouding her vision. She ran until she could run no more.

Her sister’s news was almost too much to take. When their father had died years earlier, Emma had been her rock and they became the best of friends.

Now, what was she going to do without her? She sat down on the moonlit beach and wiped away her tears. But they continued to fall.

“You going to be okay?” she heard a voice behind her. She quickly stood up and wiped her cheeks.

“Yeah, I’ll be fine.”

“You’re a terrible liar Beth.” Niall said reaching for her hand. She protested at first but then let him pull her into his embrace.

She clung to him as her tears sprang anew.

Niall stroked her hair and held her tight. He was fighting back his own tears. He loved Emma like a sister.

“Oh God. What am I going to do?”

Niall didn’t know what to say. What could he say?

“I don’t know Beth. I honestly don’t know.” They sat down together and he continued to hold her. Letting her cry.

“Why didn’t she tell me right away? Why did she have to tell everyone at the same time?”

Niall sighed. “Maybe it was easier for her this way.”

“I know but…”

“Beth, she needed to do it this way. Could you imagine having to tell everyone that you love separately that you have cancer?”

“What can we do? I feel so helpless Niall.”

“So do I.” He felt her shiver from the night air. “I think the best thing that we can do is just be there for her and Zayn. They are both going to need all of our love and support. In no matter what they decide to do after the twins are born.”

Bethany looked up at him. Studying his face. “When did you get so wise and grown up?” she asked.

“You haven’t been around to notice.” He said with a smile. “Come on.” He got on his feet and pulled her up. “You can stay at our place tonight and then tomorrow talk to her.”

“Okay.”

Louis sat down next to Harry in the sand. Harry’s eyes never leaving the fire.

“She told you earlier didn’t she?” Louis asked his best friend.

“Yeah, I got here early in the day and she told me.”

“You didn’t take it very well did you?” Harry looked at Louis. Louis already knew the answer.

“No.”

“I can’t believe this Haz.”

“I don’t think any of us can.” They both looked over at Emma who was hugging Danielle and Eleanor. Everyone else was talking and trying not to cry.

Niall and Bethany returned to the fire. Zayn saw them and hurried over. He took Beth’s hand and pulled her into a hug.

“Zayn, I’m sorry.”

“You have nothing to be sorry for.”

“I love her so much.”

“You aren’t the only one.”

“Zayn, I’m going to take Beth back to our place so she can get some rest.”

“Okay. Beth?”

“Yeah Zayn.”

“Don’t shut her out. She needs you.”

“I know.”

Beth walked over to Emma and hugged her. “I’m going to go home with Niall right now.”

“Okay. We’ll talk okay?”

“You can count on it sis.”

“I love you Beth.”

“I love you too Em.”

Niall took Beth’s hand and led her to his car. Zayn and Emma watched as they drove away.

“I think someone is interested in your sister.” Zayn said with a smirk. Emma rolled her eyes and laughed.
