Lenny Smith transferred to Carabell high in our sophomore year. He was the new guy every girl wanted to meet and kiss when we saw him walking the halls. He was perfect. He has brown hair with blond highlights. His hazel eyes would make any girl swoon. He had the perfect athletes body, he was probably a football player at his old school.
Lenny was perfect to every girl, until one got the courage to go up to him. Clarissa Makea, a junior went up to Lenny at his locker. She stood behind him and said
"Hi Lenny! I'm Clarissa. What grade are you in?"
All of us girls watched from across the hallway, waiting for him to turn and make his response. To our surprise, he didn't turn around. We watched as Clarissa looked back at us with a puzzled look. We ushered to say hi again, this time louder. So even louder than before Clarissa said,
"Hi Lenny! I'm Clarissa. What grade are you in?"
Again, he didn't turn. Clarissa sighs and tapped him on the shoulder. Lenny turned around with a puzzled look and jumped when he saw her standing so close to him.
He smiled at her and moved his hands to his face and moves them around. Clarissa looked at him puzzled and he turned back to his locker and picked up a piece of paper and a pen. He quickly wrote something down and showed it to Clarissa. Clarissa read it and didn't say anything. After about 10 seconds I went up and grabbed Clarissa by the arm, smiled at Lenny, and pulled Clarissa down the hallway.
----------------------------
After me and Clarissa got to first period, I had her tell me what the note said. It said,
"I'm deaf"
Almost automatically after that, the word spread around about Lenny quickly. He soon became the kid everyone wanted to be nice to, but no one really knew how. It was two months into our sophomore year when I first talked to Lenny.
