Saturday, at Coffee Loft-
I sat nervously in a big leather chair in the corner of Coffee Loft. I had arrived twenty minutes early to make sure I would have my coffee in time by when Lenny gets here. I ordered a Salted Caramel Mocha and had it between my hands. About ten minutes before we were scheduled to meet, I saw Lenny open the doors to the shop. I quickly stood up to meet him. He pulled out his phone as I walked up and started typing away. I waited for a moment then my phone vibrated.
"Hi."
I smiled and typed back,
"Look at me:)"
Lenny looked up at me, with a confused expression on his face. I thought for a moment, then started signing,
"It's nice to see you again."
He smiled and signed back, "It's nice to see you too. How are you?"
I replied with good, then signed "Do you know how to read lips?"
He responded with a nod and he gestured towards the chair I was sitting in. I said to him,
"Are you going to get any coffee?"
Lenny nodded and walked towards the counter. I noticed him typing on his phone. When it was his time to order he held up his phone to the barista and she nodded and have him his receipt once he paid. When Lenny was waiting for his coffee, I started to unpack my backpack. I pulled my phone out of my backpack and saw I had ten text messages from "Babe<3". I turned my phone on "Do Not Disturb" mode and started to power up my laptop. I looked up and saw Lenny walking over and he took a seat across from me in a big chair that had a pink zebra pattern on it. I laughed a little when he sat down in it. He looked like a giant in a Barbie chair. Lenny looked at the chair, then back at me and signed,
"What?"
Luckily I had done a lesson on a American Sign Language that taught me how to say "What" and also taught me how to say what I wanted to respond with.
I signed "You look hilarious!"
He laughed and took out his phone so he could text me while we worked on our project. I grabbed my phone, turned it off of "Do Not Disturb" mode and saw that Derek had texted me another twelve times. I opened the contacts app on my phone and went to the contact marked "Babe<3" and quickly changed it to "Derek". Lenny texted me,
"You ready to start working?"
I clicked on his message and responded,
"I was born ready!;)"
