Forgetting Lenny

Chapter 6

Lenny's Point of View (The same day, in Coffee Loft)-

I pulled into the parking lot of Coffee Loft and pulled down the mirror in my car. I checked my hair and made sure my shirt wasn't wrinkled before I got out of the car. I approached the little rustic cafe. I walked up to the doors and saw Eliza approaching me. She had on a dark blue shirt that made her green eyes look beautiful. Not that they aren't beautiful anyway. She has straight red hair that shows the fire inside of her. She's the most beautiful girl I've even met.

I walked up to Eliza and took out my phone to text her a greeting. I quickly sent hey and she responded with,

"Look at me:)"

She signed, very slowly, "It's nice to see you again."

I signed back, "It's nice to see you too! How are you?"

She signed back "Good. Do you know how to read lips?"

I responded with yes. I've gotten pretty good at reading lips, especially because I'm now in a main stream school.

"Are you going to get any food?" Eliza said to me. I nodded and headed over to the coffee counter and pulled out my phone and wrote in the notes my coffee order. When I was standing waiting to order I looked over and Eliza sitting in a huge leather chair. The only good thing about being deaf is that I can read people's body language really well because I don't have to focus on words. Eliza started to pull books out of her bag and she took her phone out of a pocket in her backpack. She looked and her phone with a look of hurt and pain, then pressed a few buttons and put it down. I was about to walk over and ask her what's wrong but I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned and saw the barista looking at me with a confused look on her face. I jumped and showed her my order. She nodded and told me my total . I took out my credit card and handed it to her. She handed me my coffee and I walked over to Eliza.

I sat down across from Eliza and noticed she was laughing at me. I looked at her in confusion and signed,

"What?"

She responded with, "You look hilarious!" and pointed at the chair I was sitting in. I looked down and shook my head when I saw I was sitting in a pink zebra stripe chair. After a second of chuckling, I took out my phone to text Eliza while we worked.

I texted her, "You ready to start working?"

Eliza first looked at her phone with sadness, then I saw her phone light up from my text and she laughed. She typed back and I felt my phone vibrate in my hand. I looked down and saw the text,

"I was born ready!;)"

I looked up and Eliza and smiled as I moved my chair closer to hers so we could look at her laptop. She tucked a piece of hair behind her ear and I thought to myself

How did I get luck enough to have the smartest, and most beautiful girl in the school as my partner?
