I am a feminist
because
I was hit on by
40 year old men
at age 9.
I need feminism
because
I didn't shave for 2 days
and I was called 'disgusting'
by multiple people.
I need feminism
because
I've been sexually assaulted/ harassed
multiple times at school
for years,
but if I say anything
the solution given to me is
"Boys will be boys".
Because
1 in 4 women
are raped
and society still asks
what she was wearing.
I am a feminist
because I can't even wear shorts
without getting
unwanted attention.
I NEED feminism
because there were and still are
countless days
that I walked home
with my heart pounding in my chest
whispering to myself that
I'll be okay
every damn time
a man walks by.
We NEED feminism because
I flinch every time
my own father
tries to hug me.
Why can't the world see
how much we need feminism?
All I want
is to feel safe in my body
and for everyone
to be equal.
