Chapter 17
"Sorry, no smoking here." I pointed at the sign on my table. He angrily got up and left.
I was losing business. I never realized how many people smoke in the casino. And I was losing all of their tips.
I sighed and shuffled for the few people that were at my table.
Usually I didn't care if people smoked around me, but now it was me and the baby.
The baby was making everyone act weird around me, and I wasn't even showing yet.
Chase acted like I was made of glass that could shatter at any moment.
Paige was babying me, which was really scary. She made breakfast every morning and dinner every night. Full of baby healthy foods apparently. I was just glad she wasn't packing me lunch for work. But, I had a feeling that was her next step.
I hadn't told Sean yet an my mom didn't either. I was afraid to tell him. Telling my big brother that his little sister was knocked up wasn't going to be a walk in the park. So I'd avoid it as long as possible.
"Hey." Iris came up to me at the end of my shift "Your table was pretty empty today" she pointed out.
"I know. It's because of the no smoking sign I put up" I said.
"Why'd you put that up?" She asked. I was at my locker now getting my stuff.
"Because I don't want to inhale all that smoke." I told her. She tapped her chin thinking. When she came up with a solution she lit up.
"You should just hold your breath!" She said enthusiastically "Then it'll only be a little smoke" I sighed getting annoyed.
"I can't handle even a little smoke" I told her
"Why not? You were fine with it before." She asked her head tilted to the side. I sighed and decided to fess up.
"That because I'm pregnant now" I whispered.
Her bright eyes widened and focused on my stomach. She then looked up at me and hugged me tightly.
"I'm so excited!" She screeched spinning in circle. "This is going to be so super cool!"

I drove home i laid out a pair of jeans and a shirt and jumped in the shower. Chase and I had a date tonight.
When I got out of the shower I wrapped myself in my towel and went to my bed where my clothes were missing. I sighed knowing the culprit.
"Paige!" I said annoyed. She innocently popped her head in the room "Where are my clothes?" I asked batting my eyes.
"On my bed" she said before disappearing again.
Of course my clothes weren't on her bed. One of Paige's dresses was though.
"Don't you think this is too dressy?" I shouted
"Not for where you're going!" she screamed back.
I still didn't know where I was going tonight. Chase hadn't told me but Paige must know something I don't.
I put on the dress without arguing and waited for Chase to pick me up. When he knocked on the door he was dressed nicely in a suit.
"You look beautiful" he said as soon as I opened the door. I blushed as he handed me a heart shaped box.
"They're chocolates." he said "I would've got you flowers too but yea" he trailed off and I remembered how dizzy the flowers had made me.
We walked down to his car and he rushed ahead of me to open the door for me.
"Um thanks." I said. He also closed the door for me when I got in.
That was odd.
When he got in the car he reached over and buckled my seatbelt for me.
"I could've done that." I said.
"Just making sure you're secure" he said starting up the car as he started driving.
It was obvious that something was up.
"Where are we going?" I asked suspiciously.
"Somewhere nice" Chase said grinning to himself.
This was really somewhere nice. It was a small resturant on the beach.
We had a beautiful candlelit dinner by the window watchig the waves.
"I'm so full" I announced when dinner was over.
"Wait! But, what about dessert?" Chase asked eagerly.
"I don't think I can eat anymore." I said.
"Sure you can!" he eagerly called over the waiter and ordered me a slice of their key lime pie.
"I said I'm full" I tried to make him stop the food would just go to waste but he wouldn't listen.
When the pie arrived it looked delicious but I couldn't picture myself eating it.
"Well aren't you gonna try it?" Chase asked when he saw me staring at it. I opened my mouth to protest.
"Please just taste it." he begged. I sighed feeling defeated.
I took a bite of the pie and it melted in my mouth. I was really good.
"It is good" I smiled at Chase's eager face. I looked down at the pie to take another bite when I saw something shiny in the pie.
"What is this?" I carefully picked it up and discovered that it was a ring. "The cook must've lost it in the food." I looked at it perplexed.
I looked up at Chase and realized he wasn't sitting across from me anymore.
He was next to me on one knee. My heart stopped when I realized what was happening.
Chase was proposing... To me.
Chase grabbed the ring from my hand and wiped it off with his napkin.
"Sheilah. You know I love you." he said holding the ring in his hand.
"I-I love you too." I studdered still in shock. I looked around the resturant and realized that all eyes were on me and Chase. He grabbed my hand and I focused on him again.
"Sheilah, Will you marry me?" he asked and he looked up at me and smiled. I couldn't believe this was happening to me.
I threw my arms around him and kissed him passionately. I heard people in the resturant clapping. I could feel tears burning in my eyes. When I finally pulled away from him he smiled.
"I'm guessing that's a yes?" he asked with his eyebrow raised.
"Yes!" I nodded happily.
