This Baby Shower Sucks

"It's a super stroller!" I gaped. This thing was incredible and really expensive.

"Thank you so much! Who brought this?" I smiled and looked around. My smile quickly faded when my eyes met the person that rose their hand.

"I did." Kai smiled as she came to my side and Paige snapped a photo.

Chapter 22

I grid my teeth together annoyed. Kai's just here to mess things up as usual.

"Ok guys for the first game we're all gonna put on these name tags and-" Iris started but I didn't hear the rest. I had to get out of there.

Kai still had her hand wrapped around my shoulder. I pushed her away from me. She landed on her butt in the sand. She looked up at me shocked. I got up as fast as I could with this basketball of a stomach and I waddled off away from the party.

I could hear someone jogging after me. I did my best to speed up but I was way too big to move fast.

"How come every time I see you you're running away from your friends?" It way Ryan. I stopped waddling and breathed like I was doing aerobics.

"They're...not...my...friends." I wheezed.

"But they're throwing you a party?" he asked confused.

My friends wouldn't invite Kai to my party. I'm not sure if I know who these people are.

"Look I don't want to butt in but you seem to run a lot from your friends. Try talking it out first." he shrugged.

I glared at him angrily. I was in no mood to lectured by a random hot stranger I'd met once.

"It's just a suggestion" he said holding his hands up and jogging away.

"Onesie!" I turned and Iris and Paige were behind me. "You left before I could explain the game. You wear this nametag and this close pin." Iris put on my nametag and clipped on a close pin. "Everyone can only say nametag names or else you lose your close pin and your chance of winning"

"Who made the guest list for this party?" I asked Iris.

"Pacifier did." she said.

"Who?" I looked at her confused.

"Pacifier... Paige." she said pointing at Paige's nametag.

"Ha!" Paige shouted "You said my name!" she declared as she snatched off Iris's close pin.

"But..." Iris stuttered.

"Iris, Paige and I need to speak in private." I said. Iris perked up and snatched my close pin.

"Ah-ha! It's booties!" she proclaimed proudly and pranced off.

"Why did you invite Kai?" I asked angrily

"Who's that?" she asked confused.

"The girl you just took a picture of me with!" I stomped infuriated.

"Oh you mean diaper" she smiled "She came over one day. I thought it'd be nice to invite your old college roommate." Paige smiled proudly. She really had no idea.

"Paige. You mean to tell me a random woman came to your door and told you that she knew me so you invited her? You didn't think to ask me first?" I asked angrily.

"I-I...." She stuttered. "She just knew so much about you. I-I I know I've heard you say her name before."

"Yes. Kai, as in Chase's ex Kai. Kai who harassed us at his reunion. Does this name ring a bell?" I watched Paige's eyes go wide.

"She lied to me? She wasn't your roommate?" I shook my head. "That puta!"

"Yes and you just invited her into my life." I sighed.

"Sheilah you gotta believe me I had no idea." Paige begged me.

I was furious. Not directly at Paige but mostly the situation.

"How could you have been so naive?" I asked Paige angrily.

"I'm sorry I guess I wasn't thinking. Everything's just so stressful with school trying to make the rent" I looked at Paige and into her big eyes which only seemed bigger considering her how thin her face looked.

"If the rent is that bad why'd Iris move out. She could've helped you cover it. What's happening?" I asked her.

It obviously wasn't just the inviting Kai thing. Something was seriously wrong with my friend and I haven't been there for her at all.

"Everything is fine I just made a mistake by inviting her. Iris and I are fine. Look we'll talk after the baby shower I promise but for now let's try to enjoy this party." Paige plead

"How can I enjoy the party with that woman here?" I huffed.

"I'll handle her. Trust me. Please." She begged. I sighed knowing that I'd go along and she too that sigh as a sign of me saying yes and we headed back to the party.

"Onesie! You're back!" Iris bounced up and down. "I was afraid you were leaving..."

"Yea Onesie.." Kai glared at me and plastered a fake smile on her face "You just ran off. Is something wrong?" She blinked innocently.

I opened my mouth to curse her out but Paige jumped in front of me and boldly grabbed Kai's arm and pulled her off to the side. A silence fell that was broken by Iris.

"Who's ready to play another game?"

In the middle of Iris's game of changing a doll's diaper Paige rejoined the party with Kai in tow. She quietly sat at a table and avoided making eye contact with me. Paige sat next to me and smiled. I guess she did handle it.

The party continued on until the sun set. All of the games had finished and dancing had begun. I stayed in seated for most of this since it was becoming increasingly difficult for me to move around. Even Kai was acting civil so I let her stay. She was getting along the best with Paige and Iris surprisingly. Probably because they were all to drunk to be mad at each other. I sat enjoying the ocean air on the beach at night.

"This party has been super fun!" Iris slurred as she, Paige and Kai took a break from dancing to come and see about me.

"I-I I I just. I just. I just." Kai giggled unable to complete her thought. "I just wanted to apologize about before." She looked at me with glassy eyes "I just. I just. I just... Yea" she stopped.

"Don't worry about it." I said tired of trying to make out her sentences.

"Come dance with us!" Paige grabbed my hand and tried to pull me up.

"No that's ok" I protested.

"Come on." Iris grabbed my other arm and Kai pushed me up from behind. They dragged me despite my request to the dance floor. Once we got there they danced around me like idiots.

"You guys are crazy. I can't dance like this" I rolled my eyes pointing to my stomach

"Of course yo- AH" Kai slipped and fell down flat on her face.

"What the heck? Did someone spill their drink here?" Kai looked around sitting in a puddle.

"Are you peeing?" Iris pointed down and I saw that the puddle was coming from me.

"Oh shit." Paige said with large eyes when she realized what was happening.

"I think my water broke." I said terrified.

"And I'm lying in it!" Kai shrieked as she got to her feet "Gross!"
