Making the Worst of a Good Situation

The Mission

"Luna?" I asked Paige perplexed "Isn't that the smoker chick that you go to school with?"

Paige nodded her head with a shocked expression on her face. I always told Paige I didn't like that girl. But even I had no idea she'd kidnap Connor.

"Are you sure it's her?" Paige asked Kai.

"What's her last name?" Kai asked.

"Um...Thomson"

Kai typed her name into the search bar on Facebook and her profile picture popped up. What was really disturbing was her recent tagged photo. We all saw it and Kai immediately clicked on it. Paige let out a gasp.

It was a picture of Paige passed out on the floor. I could see the shattered vase around her head. And there way Luna holding Connor with a caption "Where's the baby?"

"Oh my God" I felt like I was going to throw up. I knew someone took him but, seeing him there sleeping in her arms. She doesn't give a damn about him and he's with her. What if she hurts him? If she's capable of this what's stopping her from-

My stomach churned on the spot. I started dry heaving as teardrops stung my eyes. 

"Connor" I heaved. I could feel my heart pounding in my chest. 

"She's having a panic attack" I heard Paige scream. I fell to the floor. From my blurred vision I could see Chase leaning on the wall as if a knife was driven through his chest. Paige was pacing praying Hail Mary in Spanish. 

"Go get some cool towels" Kai instructed Paige and then she came to me on the floor.

"Sheilah I need you to listen to me." she said as my eyes darted to Chase "Hey hey look over here." she snapped until I looked at her face. She looked calm and collected considering the situation.

"That picture was a good sign. Connor's ok. She's kept him alive" she said to me slowly. Paige returned and Kai placed a cool towel on my head.

"We need you to calm down so we can work together and find him. OK." I nodded my head coming out of my daze. I need to find him.

She helped me stand as I regained some composure. Chase was back over by the computer and he grabbed my hand and squeezed it.

"We're one step closer to finding him" He said comforting me. 

"I'm calling her" Paige said as she angrily held her cellphone to her ear.

"No!" Kai tried to stop her but Paige moved away.

"Shhhh" she demanded. Paige listened for what seemed like an eternity until she switch her phone to speakerphone. "It's on speaker like you demanded" she said.

"Sheilah are you there?" I could hear her raspy voice through the phone.

"I'm here" I said not knowing what to expect.

"Good. And your fiance is there too right?"

I opened my mouth to answer but Chase stopped me.

"What do you want?" he asked.

"Right to the point. I like it." she purred "What does everyone want? Money of course."

"What makes you think you can extort us?" Chase asked angrily.

"Well I don't know. Connor what do you think?" I could hear the familiar sound of Connor crying suddenly. My heart sunk to my stomach.

"Stop!" I screamed.

"Leave him alone!" Chase shouted.

"Calm down. Calm down" she calmly spoke into the receiver. I could still hear Connor  crying getting further away in the background. "I just pinched him so he could cry. Now you know he's alive."
