Hearing my phone ringing I lazily moved my hand around my bed while my face was still glued to my pillow. When I finally found it I didn't even bother checking who it was. 1) I'm to lazy to look and 2)I always answer the phone without checking the ID. Like Adam, I didn't give my number to people so easily either. So if someone was calling me, it was someone I wanted to answer to.
Sluggishly I rubbed my eyes and brought my phone to my head. "He-"
"I LOVE YOU," a loud and excited voice said catching me way off guard.
God, Now that woke me up. By the sound of it, it was most likely Josh. For some reason he's always happy in the morning. Without coffee. This freak of nature. If it was anybody else I'd probably be beyond pissed. It was only like what, 6 in the morning? For someone like him who goes to school this would be a normal time for him since he has to wake up and get ready. Me, on the other, I was homeschooled. So waking up this early really doesn't sit well with my already unstable mental health. If I didn't have my medication, regular check ups with my psychiatrist, and the support of my friends and family there'd be no difference between me and an anxiety filled cucumber. Or maybe I'm just a really lazy person and just using my health as an excuse. I don't really know anymore.
"Dammit Josh it's like 6 in the morning." woken up by his hyper energetic self, I propped myself up on my bed and sighed, "what's up?"
"Sorry. I just got your present in the mail and, not even joking red, broke down when I opened it. Seriously how-"
I cut him off, if I didn't I'd be bombarded with questions I already knew he was gonna ask, and trust me, he's a talker. So to clear the confusion, I bought Josh this book he's been meaning to get since forever, The Lucky One by Nicolas Sparks. Not only the book but also the movie, but that's not why he's calling me screaming his undying love for me, oh no. I gave that boy an AUTOGRAPHED book and CD signed by the author himself. I know, I'm an awesome friend.
"I'm stopping you right there. So I was in the bookstore getting some new stationary stuff when I saw a sign that said 'Nicolas Sparks autograph session'. Awesome right? There wasn't a lot of people yet so I got in line, got the book and movie and bam, there you go." I may have tuned down the story a tad bit. There was actually a whole bunch of people there, I mean cmon, it was Nicholas Sparks. On the other hand, it was for my friend Josh who loves books so much that I couldn't resist not doing it for him.
"How can you be so calm?!? You just met the Nicolas Sparks and your still alive! What are you?!?" He says frantically
I chuckled at the thought of Josh freaking out when he opened the package. You'd think if Josh was such a big fan he'd have a copy or two in his room by now, but that's why I got it for him. Surprisingly he doesn't have any, actually, he doesn't have a lot of the books he's always wanted to read.
Just like Adam, apparently everyone else at their school has their own twisted assumptions on who Josh Tanner is. In fact, all 5 of my friends had their own twisted reputation given to them by the school population. To them, Josh Tanner is a huge player, making him and Adam the "bad boy duo" of their school. It's a comical thought really for someone who's known the boys all my life. In reality, Josh is just the ordinary cocky and quirky guy you'd find in any other school, I think. I wouldn't really know, but the biggest thing Josh hides is that he's a closet reader. Unlike Adam who doesn't care on what others think, Josh can get a bit self conscious.
If it was just reading cool action books or books about war then Josh wouldn't be so self conscious over the fact that he's a book nerd. Though ironically, he doesn't really enjoy those books. Instead, Josh Tanner likes sappy romantic books like The Lucky One or The Notebook by Nicolas Sparks. So like I said about Adam, if people didn't see Josh, it's not because he's rolling around with some random chick. He'd most likely be in the library with Adam reading some sappy books like Fault in Our Stars or something. Currently I think he's working on going over the entire Twilight series for about the 20th time.
"Look I got it for you because you've been dying to watch and see the movie for years now. If you could just throw away your insecurities and just buy them then this wouldn't be a problem. Now stop being all surprised, thank your friend, and read and watch till your eyes go blind from the awesomeness your about to encounter." I said with a slight smirk on my face. I wasn't going to let random people affect Josh like this. He's actually a really deep guy but I don't want him to feel bad about his hobby. He even writes really popular short stories under an alias that get a lot of attention.
It made me sad to think how big of an influence his classmates, or the whole school really, had on him. I knew Josh long enough to know that the smile he has when reading something he likes is probably one of the most genuine expressions you'll ever see in a human. To think he has to hide it shows how bad peer pressure can get for some people.
Lost in my train of thought I was snapped back to our conversation when I heard a lot of noise on Josh's end, "That's it! I'm skipping school today! I'm not going out of my room until I finish this book and watch the whole movie at least 3 times! Thanks Red! Love ya!"
"Wait wha-" and the line cuts off, great. I knew Josh is probably in his room right now with the lights off and a blanket over his head reading like there's no tomorrow. How his eyes haven't been damaged yet is beyond me. He still has 20/20 vision. Like I said, he was a freak of nature.
With that, I laid back down on my comfy bed and closed my eyes hoping for at least 2 more hours of asleep. I would do anything for my friends really. They didn't have to keep in touch with me but they did anyway. To me, giving Josh an autographed book by one of his favorite authors will never compare to what what they've all done for me......

B- Do you happen to know why I found Josh in his room crying his eyes out with like 10 boxes of Kleenex surrounding him?
B- And why his room was dark and the windows closed leaving only his flashlight on
B- cause he growled at me to leave him alone and almost bit me when I stepped closer.
Shit
Me- I can explain
B- who's Logan?
