"Don't forget us, got it? I don't care how busy we are, we'll always have time for you." Macy says as she tries to hold back the waterfall of tears escaping her eyes. I try to hold in my tears as I pull her into a hug and looked intently at her
"I'll never forget you" I managed to choke out. I look behind her to face my other friends that stood there "all of you."
Macy breaks away from our hug and wipes her tears, "here, we all sorta pitched in and bought this. We all have one to, but we wanted you to be the first to wear it." Macy says as she pulls out a leather bracelet with a silver infinity sign attached to it.
"It's not much bu-"
Before she can say anything else I cut her off and pulled her into another and even tighter hug, "Are you kidding me? It's perfect, I love it."
As me and Macy pull away, we hear a cough behind her, "don't we get one to?" Josh says with with a scoff
I chuckled, "Of course you guys do" I walk over towards them and give him, Danny, and Devan a hug that almost made me burst out in tears. These guys were always there for me and always protected me and Macy. When bullies bothered us they were there to beat them up. When I got in trouble with my parents these guys would always take the blame for me. They like my brothers. It's hard to believe I'll be leaving the comfort of these arms. "Ill be brave, you guys won't have to worry about me a lot. I promise."
"We'll always worry about you red" the twins Danny and Devan say in sync.
Red, that was my nickname in the group. I got it when I accidentally dyed my hair bright red during spring break. I was trying for blue but stupid me didn't read the label right when I bought it. That and Josh completely removed the label when he handed me the bottle of hair dye and told me it was blue. The only people who ever got to see it was just our group of friends. I even made everyone pinky promise to not tell anyone else about it. If they did I told them I'd get the hair dye and let them have a taste of what it felt like since they thought it was so funny.
As I was reminiscing about the past, I felt something missing, "hey. where's Adam? He was just here a while ago."
Josh looks around and scratches his head, "Went to the vending machine. He needed a drink." I frowned at his tone. Josh was always the happy one in the group. We all have our depressed moments but Josh was always the one to brighten up the mood. I guess I can't expect him to do the same today though. When someone close to you leaves, why should he try to be happy.
"I'm gonna go meet up with him then."
They all gave me a nod and I went on my search for Adam. Even for our age he's pretty tall so it shouldn't be hard. When I spotted him I chuckled. He was staring really intensely at a vending machine. It was a pretty comical sight really. A serious guy like focusing really hard on a vending machine? Cmon, it's funny.
Carefully, I sneaked behind and yelled out a "Boo!"
Adam just just looks at me and scoffs at my lame attempt to scare him and presses a button for his drink, "I knew it was you red."
I crossed my arms and started pouting, "how'd you know? You didn't even look at me, and here I thought I was the greatest spy in the world."
He scoffs, "You wouldn't even pass the interviews for being a spy"
"Aw cmon" I say with a pout, "join in my fun"
As if I flipped a switch he looks at me with frustration and sighs, "what fun Red? You don't have to lighten up the mood. You're sad, we're all sad so don't hold it in. It's common sense to know that holding it in wont make anything better. Heck, even Josh isn't hiding it, and I'm not about to either. And I'm sorry if I'm just blowing up in your face but I'm upset. My best friend is leaving, and god knows when I'll ever see you again. What if I-" he cut himself off there.
I looked at Adam with a blank face. I knew he was going to do this. I knew he was going to voice my thoughts out. All the worries and doubts I had piled up and repressed resurfaced through his words. They reminded me of the reason why me and him had been together for so long. Even before Macy, the twins, and Josh came into our lives. Adam would always say things like it is. He helped me accept the truth when nobody else did. When the truth was so hard to accept, he was there to help. Because no matter what we did, the truth was never going to change. Adam is the reason why Im able to face reality. There were no lies between us. Everything was real.
He pulled me into a hug and I silently cried into his arms. "I don't want to go."
"I know, I wish you didn't have to." He whispers to me as he rubs my back.
"Ill miss you B"
"Ill miss you to R"
Blue, the B stood for blue. Remember when I mentioned how I got my name red? Well, after that incident, Adam got blue hair dye and had dyed his hair blue for the weekend. He said he felt bad that I messed up when I attempted to do it. Why he thought it'd make me feel better I have no idea. Weird thing is, it kinda did. We spent the weekend at Macy's parents' lodge so no one knew but the 6 of us. No one really called him B though. Only I did. I guess it's cause his was on purpose and mine was a horrific accident. In return, he called me R, just to feel special.
Flight to New York is now ready for boarding.
We pulled apart as I grabbed my carry-on and wiped away any remnants of tears "I guess it's time."
He takes his hand and clips a piece of hair behind my ear, "I guess it is." We kept staring at each other until the bracelet Macy gave me caught his attention.
"The bracelet, do you like it? Mines in my room."
"Yeah" I continued to stare at him, wondering when the next time will be when we'll be together like this again "I really love it."
"No way! You are not boarding that plain until we get a picture!"
Me and Adam turned around to see Macy rummaging through her purse looking for her camera as the boys followed behind her chuckling. "One, I just want!"
I looked at Adam and shrugged "anything for you guys"
We asked a passerby that was more than happy to take our picture. We all got into positions. From the left it went Devon, Macy, me, Adam, Josh, and then Danny. When the person was ready to take our picture, we got ready.
I took a deep breathe, I can do this
