"Hurry up" I say tapping my foot impatiently. It feels like I've been waiting in this non-moving lunch line for about a year. Im so hungry I've even completely disregarded the large number of students that have surrounded me. It's really not that hard to grab what you want and pay for it.

Letting out a sigh I feel a hand grab my wrist and pull me out of the line, "hey, what the-"

"You're not actually going to wait in that insanely long line are you?" I look at the person who grabbed me, it was Holly.

"Uh, sure. I mean it's long as hell but I do need food before I pass out" I tell her in an obvious tone.

Rolling her eyes she shakes her head, "I've got extra food in my lunch pale. It's way better than waiting in line only to see all the good food gone. Let's go, it'll just be you, me, and Jake." Before I can respond to her she starts leading me over to a small round table where Jake was waiting. Grimacing at the site of him I quickly turned it to a small smile when our eyes met. All of a sudden I'm not that hungry anymore.

"Look Holly, it's really nice of you and all but I should-" cutting me off Holly quickly passes me a bowl of salad and a fork

"no way" she says shaking her head, "there is no way I'm letting you starve on your first day. A little tip all seniors should know about by now is to bring your own lunch here. Well, no, most just cut in front of the underclassmen, cuz y'know, seniority. But it's honestly easier to just bring your own."

"The food isn't all that anyway," Jake added as he bites down his BLT sandwich.

"Oh, well.. Thanks," I say hesitantly. I slowly picked up the fork and opened the bowl of salad. It was filled with the basic lettuce, small tomatoes, and other things a typical salad bowl would have. Seeing me awkwardly staring at the bowl Holly looks at me, "whats wrong?" She asks, "You don't have to worry Amber, I really don't mind sharing."

"No, its not that" I answer while avoiding her gaze, "I'm just" I pause for a second "praying"

"o....okay?" she says, almost not believing my excuse. When she goes back to eating her yogurt and talking to Jake about the rally I breathed out a sigh of relief. How am I supposed to tell her I actually really don't like salads. Actually, I don't like vegetables in general.

Taking a big gulp I hesitantly start moving my fork towards the bowl when all of a sudden it was snatched away from me. Looking up I made a shocked yet relieved expression at the person who took away the bowl of grass.

Adam inspects the bowl and looks at me, "Man, this looks good. Wanna trade me this for my burger?" He then holds up a burger half wrapped in tinfoil. It still looked like it was hot and almost right out of the pan. I looked at Adam with pleading eyes. He knows I don't eat veggies and that I love burgers, so all I wanted to do was just throw the salad to the wall and accept the burger with great gratitude. I was about to answer him 'yes' when i remembered Holly and Jake were still with me as well. Taking a peek by my shoulder they were most definitely paying attention to me and Adam's interaction.

"Adam, that's so rude. You can't just take someone's lunch away from them." Holly said sternly.

Lady, please, just let me have the burger, "it's fine Holly, really. Besides, I like burgers." I Really do

Adam lets out a sigh "What does it matter? I'm making a trade anyway, so it's not like I'm leaving her with nothing." Yes Blue! Good point! Just take away the salad and leave the burger, please!

"Look a her" Holly points at me "you've scared her so much that she's trembling" I'm trembling cause I'm hungry for the burger dammit.

"Wow Cross, just leave before you scare her off on her first day man" this time it was Jake joining in on this conversation, and he really isn't helping. Why did this happen? I just want to take the burger and eat before I pass out. Looking over to my friends who were in another table on the opposite side of the room I see them looking at us with worry. Dang it, this is exactly what I didn't want to happen. Th last thing I want is to have them worrying about me on my first day. I slightly turn to them signaling them to not worry and that I'll handle hand it.
