/ALY/
Around 4 a.m I awoke to the sound of humming. I felt eyes watching me. I looked up through hooded eyes, from my spot on Luke's chest, to find him humming an unfamiliar yet beautiful tune whilst gazing down at me, a tired smile on his face.
I rubbed my hand along Luke's side, signaling to him that I was awake. "Oh I'm sorry did I wake you?!" He whispered, concern in his eyes.
I chuckled. "That's okay, what's wrong, couldn't sleep?"
"No I was sleeping great, I just...I don't know...I woke up and you looked so peaceful and I was a little mesmerized."
I could feel my cheeks heat up. I don't like having attention on me so I changed the subject. "What song are you humming?"
He cleared his throat and scratched his head. "Oh, that, I don't..I don't remember what it's called."
"Hmm" I mumrmed, burying my face into his chest, nuzzling my nose into his shirt.
"Whatcha doin'?" He chuckled.
I breathed in his scent. "I'm just soaking up this memory."
"There will be plenty more Aly, trust me."
Luke Hemmings was the most precious boy. I wanted to memorize every detail about him. He was beautiful. So warm and comforting. He smelled of his natural scent: vanilla bean, along with booze at the moment, but he felt like home.
I yawned, I was tired but being with Luke, curled up in soft blankets and each other's warmth was such a great feeling.
"Sleepy angel," He kissed my head. "Lay back down, we can do something today that doesn't involve alcohol or parties."
I felt his arms around my waist tighten, I sunk further down into his side, pressing my cheek against his tummy. "M'kay," I yawned again. "I just want to spend the day with you."
He rubbed my back soothingly. "I would love nothing more.""Alyse!"
I stirred awake looking up to find a sleeping Luke, his arms wrapped around me protectively, his mouth slightly ajar. He was so adorable liked that. Luke almost always seemed a bit tired and seeing him in such a deep sleep was comforting.
I reached up to run my fingers through his hair. I was careful not to wake him, he surely would have a terrible hangover when he woke.
I must have just been hearing someone call my name in my head. I traced Luke's scruffy and beautifully chiseled jawline with my finger.
"Alyse Rose Cohen!" Pounding came from the door.
Oh no, not again. My mother was pounding on the door. There was no way that I could hide Luke.
I scrambled out of bed, tossing a pillow and a blanket to the floor. Hopefully it would look like I had spent the night there.
"Aly?"
I turned to find Luke rubbing his eyes. Damn it, that sleepy morning voice is so sexy.
"Shh pretend you're asleep!" I ordered.
I jogged to my door and opened it to find an irritated mother.
"Uh hi?" I said sheepishly, sounding more like a question.
"My purple scarf. You have it. I want it back." She stated, arms crossed, her hip popped out.
God she acts like such a teenage brat. My mother is more immature than I am, and she's 42, I'm 17.
"No," I shook my head. "I've never worn that scarf. I don't have it."
"Bullshit." She pushed past me and into my room.
Luke lay still in the bed, half his face buried into the pillow. He was good at pretending to be asleep, unless he actually fell back into his deep slumber.
I stood behind my mother, nervous for her reaction. Eyes squinted shut, shuddering anxiously.
She gasped. "What is this?!"
"Mom-" I started.
"What the hell?" She growled. She moved towards the bed yanking the covers off of Luke.
He sat up hesitantly and extended his hand. "Uhm...hello."
"UHM? HELLO?" She pushed his hand away.
"Mom it's not..." I trailed off.
"Alyse Cohen you better explain why there's a strange man in your bed, right now."
"Mrs. Cohen.." Luke stood.
"It's Mrs. Nichols." She snapped, in a tone suggesting he should have known better.
"Mrs. Nichols, I'm Luke, a friend of Aly's. Last night was kind of terrible and I really needed her help, so I came here and I just kind of passed out."
She looked at us disapprovingly and then glanced around my bedroom. She observed the bed I made on the floor.
"Hm well Aly's grounded so you shouldn't have contacted her."
"Mom my grounding ends today."
"Lucky for you it does," She snapped. "I'm gonna be gone all day so don't do anything else stupid."
As she pushed passed me to walk out the door I heard her mutter the word slut.
"That was..." Luke started.
I crossed the room towards him, wrapping my arms around his waist. "Thrilling."
"Yeah," He nervously laughed. "Very."
"Sorry about her, she's a bit of a bitch."
"Well she reacted better than I expected her to."
"Ugh enough about my mom, let's do something exciting."
Luke pulled me towards the bed to sit beside him while we thought of what we could do with our day.
My phone rang from my bedside table, the caller i.d reading: Thea.
"BABY AL IS UNGROUNDED!"
I laughed. "She is, she's free after a week of hell."
"I'm coming to get you! We're hanging out!"
Shit. I'd been looking forward to my first day of being ungrounded and spending it with Luke. Lately however, I'd been lacking on quality best friend time with Thea.
"How about a lunch date?" I asked.
"Yes perfect, Panera Bread at noon?"
"Definitely, and Thea?"
"Mhm?"
"Can I bring Luke along? You guys can meet?" I looked up at him as I said this.
"Oh my god yes!" She squealed.
A week ago, whenever I first told Thea I had been hanging out with a guy she as ecstatic. She said that I needed someone other than her who I could count on, I needed more than one person who could make me smile.
"Aly Rose, you've been so M.I.A the past couple weeks, what's going on?"
I picked up the champagne colored nail polish, applying it to my toes carefully.
"I haven't been M.I.A"
"Yes you have. Is it your mom? Are they getting worse?" Her tone went serious.
"No, no. Okay fine I'll tell you what's going on if you promise not to freak out."
"Alright, but you're scaring me." She paused painting her nails, and focused on me.
"So a couple weeks ago, I met someone."
"Someone as in a guy?" She beamed, her eyes gleaming.
I nodded. I couldn't stop the smile etching its way onto my face. I could feel myself blush. "After we met at the tree, the nigh Greg hit my head of the wall, I was walking around and wound up at this record store. This boy Luke works there, and oh my word Thea, when I say he is the most beautiful boy I mean it."
She brought her knees to her chin, and reached her arms out toward me to take my hands. "Aly! Oh my gosh did anything happen? I mean are you guys a thing?!"
"We hung out with his friends at this cool music scene, and we've been spending a lot of time together." I pulled out my phone.
One night when we were just chilling in the record store, sitting in aisle 6, Ashton took a Polaroid of us. It was quite cute to be honest.
Luke wore a white t shirt and black beanie, which looked amazing. He sat with his back against the aisle shelf, I as well, my head resting on his shoulder. We each shared an earbud, listening to 'Empty Apartment' by Yellowcard. Luke's hands were raised in the air as he talked about astrology, one of the many passions we shared.
I had taken a photo with my phone and that's what I was showing Thea.
"ALYSE THIS IS SO FUCKING ADORABLE I HAVE TO MEET THIS BOY!"
"Thea calm down you're gonna wake your parents." I hissed, laughing while I placed firm hands on her shoulders.
"He's breathtaking Thea," I breathed after a comfortable silence had fallen between us. "Luke Hemmings is absolutely divine."Luke took a shower to rid himself of the alcohol smell, he pulled on a different shirt, one he had given me whenever it was a chilly night on the beach.
I wore some cuffed light wash distressed jeans, and a striped comfy crop top from Brandy Melville. I wore my hair in its natural wavy curls, and did my naturally brown and creamy makeup look.
To pass the time until Thea was picking us up, Luke and I went for a walk, and he made me read to him at one point.
Five minutes after noon Thea pulled up to the driveway. A honk signaled us to her arrival and we exited the house.
On our way down the porch Luke slipped his hand into my own.
Thea jumped out of the car and ran over to me, attacking me with the most suffocating "hug" known to man. That hug was full of love though so it was okay.
"Squishy A I have missed you so much!" She pinched my "squishy" cheeks.
"I've missed you too Thea!"
She finally moved her gaze from me to the boy standing next to me.
"You," She tapped her finger against his chest. "must be Hemmings."
"Yeah, it's great to finally meet you." He smiled and extended his hand.
She shook her head, and I could sense Luke worry. Finally she cracked a smile.
"I'm just fucking with you, I'm a hugger." She pushed his hand away, and pulled him into a hug.
Thea grabbed my hand and we started walking ahead of Luke towards her white 1998 Volkswagen Cabrio.
"You didn't lie. That boy is one hell of a hottie." She chuckled.
"That he is." I grinned, pulling my best friend, who I had missed dearly, into another sweet hug.A/N:
