Chapter 12

(She is my Daughter)

Callista stood sadly at her window looking out at the forest. With a sigh she looked over at the clock. It would be only a matter of time before she would be escorted to the dining room. She couldn’t help but wonder how far everything would get before her father appeared. Then again there was the chance that he’d decide Leoden was a good choice and not rescue her at all. The girl couldn’t help but feel sick to her stomach.

Leoden had seemed nice enough when they were dancing but she wasn’t ready for marriage. She didn’t know the Griffin King. She was angry her Fae family kept making constant demands of her. She’d done so much and yet they wanted more. They never seemed to be satisfied with what she did.

Hearing a knock she didn’t turn to see the door open. Callista kept her eyes fixed on the trees outside.

“You look lovely,” Beven said looking the light pink dress she wore over. “It’s time.” The girl didn’t reply and turned to face him. Beven was smiling at her pleased.

Beven offered her his arm but Callista walked past him and out the door without a single word. “Callista,” He said and put her hand on his arm. The teenage girl let him but didn’t speak.“I assume your aren’t speaking to me,” Beven commented. Callista didn’t reply.

“Oh you look lovely dear,” Alana said proudly. Callista didn’t say a word. Surprised by her granddaughters silence she looked at Beven. Beven did a mild shrug and shook his head. “He’s a good king Callista.” The teenage girl stared straight ahead not saying a word. Beven lead her past and Alana felt a sadness. Callista had never been angry with her before.

They reached the Grand dining room and Beven escorted her to her seat. Callista didn’t speak to anyone as she sat in silence. Embry noticed the girl’s silence. He knew she was very upset by the events that were taking place.

The dinner was soon served and everyone began to eat. That is everyone but Callista. She had started to dismiss the servant but Beven had sent a look to the servant to put the food before her anyway.

As the eating portion came to a close she saw King Abron stand up. Callista knew he would now make the announcement that would bind her to the griffin king. Disappointed she looked down at the plate of food. Her father hadn’t stopped it.

“May I have your attention please,” King Abron said. Everyone stopped talking and all eyes fell on him. “It is with great happiness that I announce the Betrothal of Lady Callista..”

“I don’t think so,” King Soren said as the doors burst open.

“How dare you!” Abron barked.

“No how dare you!” The dark king shot back. “Callista is my daughter not yours! You don’t have the right to betroth her to anyone! Only I possess that power!”

“I possess it as well!” Alana said standing up angrily.

“No Lady Alana you do not,” Prince Moryn announced. “Only if my father was dead would you possess that ability.”

“He is not her father!” Alana yelled. “Callista does not recognize you! You have no power over her!” Alana’s voice was harsh firm and almost proud.

“Are you sure?” Prince Owen asked.

Callista knew this was her moment. If she spoke up and accepted her father she was forever be bound to him. If not she would lose him forever. The teenage girl stood up before everyone. “Like it or not, King Soren is my father.” Callista kept her eyes focused on the Dark King as she heard several gasps of shock.
