Chapter 39

(Healing the Labyrinth)

Callista frowned as she looked around at the damage the storm had caused within the Labyrinth. It had been two days and the Labyrinth was still flooded in many of its areas. She walked over and touching a tree felt a sense of not pain but discomfort. “Oh Labyrinth, this was so unfair to you. I’m sorry you and your inhabitants have been forced to endure this because of me.”

Not your fault my Queen.

Callista looked around wondering where the voice had come from. “Who said that?”

“Said what?” Cavin asked.

“Said this wasn’t my fault?”

“The Labyrinth.” The blonde woman looked over to see The King of the Goblins looking at her with a pleased expression. “You have the ability to communicate with it now that I do. I am its Master and King and You are its Mistress and Queen.”

“Labyrinth?”

Yes my Queen?

The Princess smiled at hearing the magical entity speak to her. “Can you tell me where I might find a certain Nymph that aided me against the levasculus?”

“My Queen?”

Callista turned to see the Nymph that had helped her down on one knee with her head bowed. Without a thought the young woman reached down and brought the Nymph back up into a standing position. “Thank you. You had no reason to protect me and you did. I truly appreciate it.”

“I had every reason to protect you my lady,” The pale woman replied. “You bring life and goodness. Our king needs you.” The woman showed no remorse for her words as she looked over at the neutral faced king. “You need each other and we need you both.” With a smile on her face the Nymph suddenly leaped into the air before landing on a branch and disappeared.

“So things disappear quickly in the Labyrinth even without a test,” The blue eyed girl commented. “I’ll have to remember that.”

She looked around a little more and then began to walk between two bushes. Aiden went to follow the girl but was quickly stopped.

Our Queen can help us where you cannot my Lord. Allow us to embrace each other.

Aiden felt disappointed but gave a small nod. This was the first time Callista had entered the Labyrinth as its Queen and did remember the Labyrinth wanting time with him when he’d first become king. Still the fact that someone had just tried to kill her made it hard for him to allow the girl out of his sight.

Callista walked through the Labyrinth surveying the damage on her own. She was not blind to the creatures she passed or the fear some still felt. Seeing a cowering small gremlin hiding within some fallen branches the new Lady of the Labyrinth knelt down to the ground. “It’s okay now. Come here,” She sent soothingly as she motioned the creature forward.
