Chapter 26
(Engagements announced)
Callista entered the ballroom on the arm of her father. He led her through the tables and then over to a seat at a table where the Goblin King sat waiting. The men at the table rose to their feet until she was seated.
“You look beautiful,” Aidan told his betrothed.
“Thank you,” She replied. Callista knew she didn’t have anything to fear but she felt nervous all the same. She glanced around the table and realized she was with friends.
Looking at Marissa she asked, “Your bow ready to go?” Marissa smiled and nodded picking up her glass of wine. “Extra battle armor would be good to.”
“Why would...” The king began.
“Because I’m either on target or lucky if I don’t kill anyone,” I replied. Before Moryn could argue she added, “Remember three of you at this table had to hit the ground at the castle.”
“Very funny,” Amara commented.
“Actually it’s true,” Owen admitted. “Just ask King Aidan.” All eyes fell on the Goblin King.
“I must admit... I haven’t had to dodge an arrow that wasn’t aimed at me before,” The Goblin King said amused. Callista wrinkled her nose at him playfully and he laughed.
Dinner continued on and as the group each told funny stories they had experienced Callista quickly forgot about the announcement that would be made.
“Your attention please,” The Dragon King announced. “King Soren and I have joyful news for all of you. We announce the betrothal of my daughter Princess Amara to Prince Moryn of the Dark Elves.” Callista heard applause as the couple stood up for a moment and even a few groans. Someone was disappointed.
“I would also ask that you join in celebration of my daughter Princess Callista’s betrothal to King Aidan of the Goblins,” He said proudly. Aidan took her hand and Callista stood with him for a moment before sitting back down. “Cheers to the four of you.” Glasses were raised and a drink exchanged.
“This is real wine,” Callista said a moment later. Everyone looked at her. “Sorry in the mortal realm I’m not allowed alcohol yet.”
“You drank it at the ball,” Amara said.
“Actually it was grape juice,” She admitted and blushed.
“It looked like the wine,” Moryn said.
