So yeah, it's been a while. Um, just about two months I think. Yeah... I suck at updating, and I'm sorry. All I'm gonna say. Hopefully you accept my apology and enjoy the chapter. Peace.
As we raced towards Speedy's base, millions of thoughts ran through my head. Glancing at Mini beside me, I saw that his jaw was clenched and that sweated coated his upper brow. Who would attack Speedy? I thought incredulously. He's always helping out people that need it! Speedy's been good to the people in Los Santos – well the good people at least. He takes people in that are hungry, lost or whatever, and will help them get back on their feet.
I was jolted out of my thoughts as we hit a porthole. We had given up stealth for this; we were driving through the city in our Insurgent. No doubt that we were attracting those damn zombies left and right, but that wasn't important at the moment. What was important was reaching Speedy's place in time.
Speaking of which, Speedy had set up base at the 24/7 Supermarket on Innocence Boulevard. It wasn't a very big base like ours; however, what it lacked in size it made up for its security. Nothing short of a crew like ours and a couple of RPG's could take down that place.
That's what got me worried. If Speedy had fallen, that meant that there was a very powerful foe out there. The only thing we could do was hope and pray that his crew was okay.
Mini took a sharp right off the corner, driving on to the curb and sending a stop sign flying. What we saw as we turned on to Speed's street made my heart sink to my stomach. Flames easily as high as the gas station belched out of the base, hungrily reaching for the night sky. The outer and inner walls of Speedy's base had been brutally breached, the gates blasted inwards and barely on their hinges. The bullet ridden bodies of Jahova and Sidearm were clearly visible on the walls, hanging over the edge.
"Jesus Christ..." I heard Mini softly whisper. I looked around and could tell that they were all feeling the same way. I turned to Mini with a grim look on my face.
"Take us in."
Giving a small nod, Mini slowly coaxed the massive vehicle into the compound. What we saw as we drove in made me feel like throwing up. Carcasses of cars with flames licking through the windows; glass, wood and metal littering the ground, making a crunching sound whenever it was driven over; the bodies of our fellow gang members, associates – no, friends, laying on the ground, sometimes mixed with strangers, each one of them either riddled with bullets on with stab wounds.
How could this happen? How could Speedy have fallen so easily? I took a shaky breath and told Mini to stop the car in front of the gas pumps. Miraculously, they hadn't exploded despite the flames surrounding them, but that didn't give me any relief. I turned to my crew who were looking around in shock, hands gripped tight on their weapons. "Look," I said in what I thought was a comforting but firm voice, "I know this is horrible, but we need to secure the perimeter. Lui, I need you up top on the wall. Marcel, Jonathan, I need you two to go and try to close up those gates. Craig, Tyler, I need you to patrol the area and watch the car." I hefted my assault rifle into the crook of my shoulder. "I'm gonna go in and try to find something that's still alive. Let's move people!"
I swiftly turned towards the store of the gas station, feeling the bile rising up to my throat. This wasn't just an attack; it was a massacre. Shaking of the thoughts, I slowly opened the door and immediately swung my rifle around. All I saw was ash, bullet holes and dropped possessions. I stepped around a shelf. Right behind it was the counter; I took in a deep breath and swiftly swung my rifle around, only to see a cocked gun raised at me. I looked past the barrel and found Speedy, slumped against the counter, bleeding from a bullet wound to the chest and two to the shoulder.
