When I went to go explain my plan to my crew, I expected a hell of a lot of protest and anger out of them. Surprisingly, they completely agreed with my decision to bring Haley and her group into ours.
Well, I guess I can't say they completely agreed to my proposition.
"Hell to the mother fucking no." Tyler broke the awkward silence that had settled over us after I had explained the situation. "No, no, and no again."
"Come on, Tyler, we need the man power, and they're-" I tried to reason.
Brian cut me off. "I completely agree with Tyler. There's no way in hell that I'm gonna let in a bunch of random fucking people that we barely know, into our group. Especially when I'm gonna have to live with them."
"Yeah, Evan," Scotty added, "didn't you even think that they might just come and kill us in our sleep? Or pull some other shit like that?"
"Listen," I said, trying to calm them down, "I talked to their leader yesterday night, and she game me her word that her crew wouldn't try anything."
"Oh, great!" Tyler responded sarcastically. "The person who we've been keeping in our basement for three days now and who has every right to hate and kill us, now promised us that she wouldn't kill us! Wow, I feel so safe right now." He threw his hands in the air, emphasizing his point. I saw Brian and Scotty nodded, but also saw Ryan and David nodding as well. Jonathan, Lui, Mae, Craig, and Brock sat in silence, looking away from the conversation, and while Marcel looked like he wanted to intervene, he just sat there, watching the exchange.
David spoke up. "For fock's sake, Evan, they hit me. Twice!" Wincing, he gestured to the ice pack he was holding to his ribs.
"Look," I said, "I know this isn't the best option, but it's the only one."
"No it's fucking not Evan." Tyler argued. "We've been surviving just fine without them, and I'm sure that we'll continue to do just that."
God, this was not going how I had planned. I know that we had been doing fine by ourselves, but now there was threat that could easily overwhelm us. Couldn't they see that this was the best option? This wasn't just for the benefit of Haley and my personal mission to save her; no, it was a legitimate solution to the deadly problem hanging over our heads. I took a deep breath and was about to continue on with my argument when I heard Scotty comment, "I think Evan just wants to get in their leader's pants." He really thought I was doing this just to fuck a girl?
I exploded. "CAN'T YOU GUYS FUCKING SEE?! THERE'S A GROUP OUT THERE THAT CAN EASILY KILL ALL OF US! LOOK AT WHAT HAPPENED TO SPEEDY!" The crew was silent, just staring at me... no, not at me, a little past me. I decided ignored that, drew a deep breath and continued, "Look, I'm just saying that if we group up with her, we'd have a better chance of survival."
A voice spoke up behind me. "I can agree with that."
Spinning around, I found Haley looking past me and at the crew. So that's why they were ignoring me. The room was dead silent for a couple of moments, until Haley said, "Is this a bad time?"
Tyler – er, Wildcat – grunted. "Kind of."
"Too bad," she said, joining me in the front of the room, "we all need to talk."
Wildcat snorted. "We don't need to talk at all."
Haley put her hands on her hips. "Oh really?" She looked at him, smirking. "I think we do, considering that I'll be living here with all of you guys -" she gestured across the room – "for the time being."
