*Claire's P.O.V*

I have no idea what got over me. Why had I decided to show even a sliver of kindness towards him? Something about the way he talked about his arm got me feeling sorry for him. I should've just told him to stop talking and quit talking nonsense. Better yet I should've told the hydra guards he was compromised.
Yes, here we are back in the hydra jet on out way home. He hasn't spoken a work, much less looked at me since last night, and I haven't turned him in. Every inch of me was screaming to. But somehow I knew better. I guess I'm compromised as well. I have been since I first saw him.

You can't tell him any of this. You've seen how unstable he is at times, who knows when he'll decide to be an ally or an enemy

I was right. For now I'd have to keep this to myself. But what I was asking myself now, was why hadn't he turned me in either. Maybe he's waiting for the chance when he's alone with Pierce.
All I could do right now was hope that he wouldn't. Or you could kill him. I'm not gonna kill him. I can't kill him...

Next Day

"Nyx. Mission report."
I quickly stepped forward, "Mission successful."  Pierce nodded, "Any uninstructed casualties?"
Shit. From behind me I felt Soldier tense up. Hydra wanted quick and efficient jobs with little deaths to draw attention. The fact that Soldier killed more than the target would get him tortured. No doubt that hydra already knew so there was no point in lying.

"Yes sir. Five uninstructed casualties," I said only. I had to think of something to get Soldier out of there. "How?"
I stood up straighter, "They saw me. I had to protect myself so I killed them." You'll be tortured for this!!! What are you doing?!!
They'd go more lenient on me. I've been here longer and am favored by all of hydra officers. They'd break him more than they already have. I guess either Soldier caught what I was doing or really wanted me tortured because he said nothing. Good.

Pierce pinched the bridge of his nose and got closer, "Where was The Winter Soldier during all of this?"  "Torturing the mission. I did what I did without him noticing," I lied cooly. Pierce looked at me like a child who had just broken a vase. "Guard!" He spat,"Take Nyx to the torture room and leave her there until I say so."

Three guards came and bound my hands behind my back.  God, what did I do?
I looked back at Soldier. I could've sworn I saw a glimpse of guilt before I was forced out of the room.

Days Later

Everything was blurry and bright. This is how I could tell I was in the hallways of the hydra building. Tight grips were dragging me across the floor for what felt like hours. The pain that shot all through my body wasn't helping either.
I heard a door open and next thing I know I'm being thrown harshly into another room. It was darker than the hallway and judging by the fact that I haven't been grabbed yet, I could tell I was in my room.

"Hey! Be careful with her!" I heard a woman's voice yell. "You don't want her to get a concussion and miss more mission time do you?"

How generous and ironic. A concussion is the least of my worries.

"How are you feeling?" She asked me as she put a reassuring hand on my shoulder. Not expecting that I backed away from her touch until my back hit what I'm guessing was my dresser. "Who are you?" I demanded.
I heard her sigh and through my blurry vision, which wasn't much, I saw her kneel in front of me. I guess this gentle voice was to be another form of torture. Let's see how it goes.

"My name is Dr. Williams, I'm the doctor here for super soldiers," she said calmly. "Now answer me, how are you feeling?"
"Super soldiers?" I ask. "Meaning you've treated The Winter Soldier too?" Williams sighs, "Not yet. You're my first patient. When I tried to check for any injuries on him he refused to let me touch him until I saw you first." The thought of him thinking about me made all if this pain worthwhile. At least I have a clue now that he hasn't ratted me out to Pierce. "Now," she continued, "do I have to ask you a million times before you answer me?"
I chuckled, "I can't see very well, everything's blurry. And I feel like shit but what can you expect after being tortured for god knows how long." She grabbed my arm and helped me up to sit on my bed, "You were in that room for four days. I was starting to think I'd be out of a job." I laughed a bit before stopping because it hurt my abdomen, "Very funny. Your humor doesn't suit a name like Williams though. What's your first name?"
I heard her open something, "Maxon. Maxon Williams. Now tilt your head back I'm going to put some eye drops in that should help with your vision." I did as I was told and blinked a couple of times before looking at her clearly for the first time.

Maxon had a gentle face. Her dark skin was flawless which proved she was new around here. No scars or bruises yet for misconduct. But from what I've seen of her, she won't be getting any for a while.
"Ah that's better," I commented. "So Max, thanks for earlier. Tellin' the guards not to throw me like that. Really appreciate it." She looked at me and smiled, "Its no problem. You had gone through enough to be manhandled like that."

"If you don't mind me asking," I started. "Why are you working for Hydra? I'm sure you'd love to be fixing up people that couldn't kill you at any time."
Max remained silent for a minute like she was thinking the answer over in her head. "I was sort of contacted by them. Handed the opportunity to help save heroes. Some might say they gave me an offer I couldn't refuse."

Something about her response sounded cold and fake but I wasn't going to be the one to pester her about it especially with the kindness she's treated me with.
