Since SHIELD went under the radar, a new base was set up somewhere in upstate New York which meant I was going back home. Well, kind of. Deciding it was now best to stay with Steve, I called my roommates and told them the news. Hanna cried and Jess wished me good luck. A part of me knew that I was doing them a favor and preventing them from danger by leaving but I was still sad to go.
Steve told me that to get my memories back I'd have to see a scientist and to him there was no better one than Tony Stark. We walked inside of the giant avengers tower and I was instantly taken aback from its glamor. Everything practically had money written all over it with fancy technology. Then again, I was in the home of the man who created the Iron Man suit so what else was I to expect."Good afternoon, Mr.Rogers," greeted a British voice as soon as we stepped inside the elevator. I slightly jumped and looked around for the source. Steve laughed and put a hand on my shoulder. "Relax, Claire. That was just Jarvis. He's an artificial intelligence program that Tony designed to run the tower. He's kind of everywhere. Good afternoon, Jarvis."
"Good afternoon, Ms. Doyle," Jarvis said to me. I waved awkwardly at the air, "Uh, hello." I made a mental note to ask how he knew my name some other time.
When we finally got to one of the last floors, Steve walked out and I followed behind him until we got to what looked like a messy lab. "Tony's in here, c'mon."
As soon as we walked inside Tony Stark stopped working and greeted us with a charismatic smile that only came from when too many people have told you too many complements."You must be our mystery avenger!" He said excitedly while holding out his hand for a handshake. "Uh, I guess so," I said while shaking his hand. "Don't worry, Doyle. That's just what we've been calling you before we knew of The Nyx." I chuckled lightly and looked at Steve.
"So," Steve started, "you said you could help Claire get her memories back?" Tony walked over to a pile of technological looking stuff, "I've been working on it. Should be ready in a few days but I'm not going to make any promises." He nodded and I let out a breath.Truth be told, even though I trusted Steve, I wasn't so sure that any of the technology was going to work. I am deadly afraid of it resembling the hydra treatments so much that it will cause a relapse. I'd hate for Steve to see that side of me.
I hadn't realized that I zoned off until they started talking about me. "You should introduce her to the team, Cap. Get her more acquainted before we start picking her brain," Tony said and I snapped my head to look at him. "Relax," he said to me, "it's a figurative term."
I rolled my eyes and decided to just keep looking around the room and let my mind wonder.*Steve's P.O.V.*
"Are you sure that's a good idea,Tony?" I asked him in a hushed voice. Claire seemed to be distracted with everything in the room as she walked around but I didn't want her to hear me talking about her.
Tony shrugged, "She seems to be reacting better than the Winter Soldier. I don't see why not." I sighed, "That's because Claire's been out of Hydra way longer than Bucky has. I just feel like I'm throwing too much information at her."
Tony gave me a pat on the back, "I say show her around. Maybe Natasha and her could get along since they're both strong independent assassin women"I laughed, "Where is Nat anyways?" "She's at HQ doing whatever she does for free time," Tony responded and looked at Claire curiously. "Take her there, Steve," he said, "Get her used to SHIELD and the Avengers while I work on this."
One Road trip to SHIELD HQ Later. . .
*Claire's P.O.V*
Headquarters were huge to say the least. Once inside I could see the many underground levels as well as the couple above ground. Each floor contained rooms for specific purposes and I couldn't help but wonder which one was mine.
Steve was leading me down a hallway on the ground level. "You know," he said, "When the whole Hydra thing happened in D.C I realized I couldn't live there anymore for obvious reasons." I laughed quietly. He also laughed and put a hand on my shoulder, "What I'm trying to say is that I moved into a room in this place and it's not so bad." I put my hand to his and gave it it light squeeze, "Thanks, Steve."
I wasn't oblivious to the fact that Steve wanted to act like the big brother I never remembered. So I let him be most of the time. He likes to over explain things about this time period to me as if I had stepped into it right from World War two. Steve also gave me advice on a lot of things and kept reassuring me that everything was going to be okay. It seemed to make him happier and honestly I liked having a brother.
My thoughts kept me occupied until we reached a large gym with lots of equipment. "I want you to meet Nat and Clint,"Steve told me as he held the door open for me like the gentleman he was. Once inside I saw a man and a woman sparring which I guessed were Nat and Clint. Both of them stopped as soon as they noticed us walk in.
Clint was a the first one to walk over. "You must be Claire," he said and I shook his hand. "Pleasure to meet you," I greeted. "Trust me, the pleasure is all mine," he said.
The red headed woman named Nat came up from behind Clint, "Ever since Steve found out you were alive he wouldn't shut up about you. I'm Natasha, nice to meet you Claire." I looked at the woman and felt some slow gears turning in my head. "I'm sorry," I said, "Have we met before?" The men both looked at her then Steve turned to me, "You know her?""The Nyx trained me," Nat spoke up. "Back in the Red Room, there would be some days where you would come in and train a couple of the girls. I'm surprised you remember me, it was so long ago."
"You didn't think to bring this up?" Steve asked. "Not unless she said something," Natasha answered never looking away from me. "You taught me everything I know," she added and I couldn't help but feel flattered."Hey Claire, why don't you and Nat do a sparring match to see if the student has surpassed the master," Clint joked and I rolled my eyes. "I'm up for it if you are," Nat said. Steve was shaking his head, "I'm not so sure that's a go-"
"Actually," I said while taking off my jacket and throwing it to the side, "I'm up for a round."
Both of us moved to the mat and got in a ready stance. In a flash, Natasha moved to throw a punch at me but I dodged it instantly. Before she could even think I moved my legs to unbalance hers and she fell under me with a thud. I smirked at her and she took advantage of our position for her to grab my arm and flip me to the floor. While she was above me I decided to do what she did to me and flip her over using the same move only this time I made her face the floor and I bent her arm back. I wasn't doing it too painfully though considering it wasn't a real fight.
"Okay, Claire," Nat said. "I give." We both stood up and Steve came and gave me a pat on the back while smiling.
"I would've won if Clint hadn't worn me out earlier," she said. I laughed, "I'm sure you would've. You were only a little slow and a tad bit predictable, but than again you were 'worn out'.""You haven't changed a bit since you last trained me," she added, "What moisturizer do you use?" "Some imported German thing," I joked back. "It really isn't that great, it has terrible side affects."
Clint cleared his throat, "If you two are done having a moment here, the rest of the team is still really excited to meet you." I rolled my eyes at him and Nat and I both laughed.I think Steve was right when he told me that this place wasn't so bad.

Authors Note
Ok so for the sake of this fic, Nyx is the one that trained Natasha in the Red Room not the Winter Soldier. I don't know I just felt like that needed to be cleared up just in case anyone flips over it.
Also thank you all so much for commenting and voting! Seeing that in my notifications gets me really happy, thanks again!
