The Roommates

The car ride with the man was thankfully quiet and not too long. Once he dropped me off in the nearest city, I began my plan to figure out who I was.

First, and I'm not a hundred percent proud of this, I broke into a random apartment. Of course I made sure it was empty before I went inside. To my luck, I found women's clothing that fit me and I discarded my hydra suit for the more mundane look of jeans and a t-shirt. After snooping around I found a laptop and decided to look myself up.
Apparently, I was born in 1921 and served in the United States Army until my dissapearance. I looked at pictures, the few accurate ones, and felt a pang of guilt for what I had become. The strong woman in them didn't deserve this.
Second, I hacked into the bank account of whoever owned this apartment, and stole the information to get enough for a plane ticket to where I was born. New York. I'm sure I could find my answers there.
I grabbed a random backpack from the closet, stuffed food inside, and quickly got out of the apartment from the window where I came in. There was an a.t.m close by so I quickly got the cash out and called a taxi to take me to the nearest airport. I highly doubt it will be long before the owner of the bank account finds out that their money is gone.

Hours Later

As the plane took off I couldn't help but to feel sick to my stomach with guilt. The winter soldier had saved me and here I was running away like a coward.
I mean, he said to not come back. . . That still does not excuse it. I shuddered at the thought of what they must be doing to him since by now I'm sure they know that he let me out.

You can't help him when you can barely help yourself.  That was true. Once I have all my pieces put together I'll help him find his. Hopefully he won't hate me for taking too long.

I looked out my window and saw how small everything looked. If only I were one of those people that would say that my problems are insignificant in comparison to  the grand scheme of things, but sadly I'm not. My problems are pretty big and I can't just turn a blind eye to them.
The woman next to me was sound asleep. I decided to try to sleep too but it just wouldn't come to me.

This was going to be a long plane ride.

Hours Later

In the simplest terms, New York is huge. I was dropped off in Manhattan and suddenly I realized that I did not think my plan  through.
Where the hell are you going to live? Can't exactly keep breaking into people's houses for things. And what the hell are you going to do? Get a job? Hydra assassin doesn't exactly look to well on an application.
I rolled my eyes at my thought process even though it was right. After just standing for a while pondering what to do, I decided to walk around the city to get a better feel of the place. Never in my life, at least what I can remember of it, had I had the freedom to do whatever I wanted and go wherever I pleased. It felt exhilarating. There was a small bookstore that caught my eye so I walked inside.

It was a simple store. Nicely kept and welcoming to all that walked in. On a nearby wall there were announcements. Things like: '20% off all graphic novels' or 'Lost Dog! Please help find Fifi!'. But there was one that seemed to answer all my prayers.

'Apartment 083 in the Rose Building in front of the store: Roommate wanted!'
I kept reading the flier. It said that I'd have to be okay with living with two other girls. So that meant that the roommate they were looking for had to be female. Considering my options I didn't care who I lived with. I looked outside the store building to look at the Rose Building. It looked nice enough to be safe. The color of the building was a light pink which is where I guess the name came from.
Taking down the flier, I walked back outside. I read the file for the rent description and made my way to another a.t.m.

Dear god, please forgive me from stealing more from these people but I need the money.
I put in the bank information that I used to buy the plane ticket with and took out enough  money for two months of rent. After stuffing the cash in my bag, I made my way towards the Rose Building.
The first thing I realized when I walked inside, was that there was no real security because as I made my way to the elevator nobody stopped me. It calmed my nerves a lot more to know that I'd have a less chance of being looked for here.

Well I doubt hydra will think to look over 100 miles of where the base is. That was also true.

Apartment 083 was on the second floor and as I neared the door, I came to another important realization. I have no people skills whatsoever.
Oh well, I can't back out now. I knocked on their door. After a few seconds of waiting, a blonde woman opened the door. She seemed about my age and gentle by the way she opened the door so wide.
"Hi, can I help you?" She asked sweetly . I quickly fumbled for the flier in my bag and held it up, "I'm here about the roommate add?"  Her smile widened, "Oh! That's awesome!" She stepped aside and motioned me in the apartment. "Come inside and I'll show you the place. I hope you like it!" I walked carefully inside and took in all of my surroundings.

It was a nicely kept place. Certainly big enough for three people to be comfortable. Best of all it looked safe and absolutely ordinary beyond imagination. Hydra would never think to look for me here.
The blonde walked over to me, "My name's Hanna by the way." She held out a hand and I shook it as normally as I could. "What's yours?"

Shit. Do I tell her? Think Claire. . .

"Allison." It's my middle name so I wasn't completely lying. "Well, let me show you the room." Hanna led me to a room down the hall. It was slightly bigger than my room at hydra which was a bonus but the window looking out to the city made it so much better. "It's not much. There's just a bed, a closet and a small desk," she started, "But the view is nice." I shook my head and smiled at her, "It's just fine."

She proceeded to show me around and I kept pretending like I was interested. In all truth, I was already sold but I didn't want to draw in unwanted suspicion so I smiled and nodded. Just as she was explaining the bathrooms, another woman walked through the door of the apartment. This must've been the other girl living here. She had dark hair like mine and gave off a slightly more intense vibe than Hanna did.

"Hey Jessie!" Hanna said, "Someone is here about the ad." Jessie set her stuff down, walked towards me, and shook my hand. "Nice to meet you," she greeted. I smiled, "Likewise."
"Allison here really likes the place," Hanna told her. "You do? That's great! Have you made your decision yet?" Both of the your women were staring at me with hope in their eyes it on,y made me smile. None of them know that I'm a crazy assassin, they think I'm normal!

"Yes I have. I'd love to move in as soon as I can if that's alright with you," I responded. I hope I'm doing a good job of selling the whole normal person thing.
