Hurting You

"Something's not right," I said mostly to myself while the others argued at a conference table.

"Nat's in the hospital wing right now because of her!" Clint yelled and pounded his fist on the table, "I don't know about you, but I'd for one like to know what the hell happened to her!"

"I'd like to know that as well but I think you're a all missing the bigger picture," T'Challa said with a serious tone. "She set a bomb off here. She attacked guards. For all we know she could be with Hydra!"
"No!" I sat up and slammed my fist down making a slight dent in the table. The room got suddenly very quiet as all eyes went on me. "She's not with Hydra," I argued. "She can't be."

Something wasn't right and I was on the verge of figuring it out. One would think it was Claire just generally going ballistic but I needed to know why?

"How can you be sure?" Steve asked and I stared at him in disbelief. I scoffed, "Steve? You can't be serious. Don't tell me you think Claire's gone back to them, too?" He crossed his arms and with a saddened expression spoke, "Bucky, I don't want to believe it either. Hell, give me even the slightest reason why her actions tonight might make sense and I'll be the first to say that there's still hope." Steve paused and looked around the room, at the people hurt tonight, and cleared his throat.

"Claire's my sister," he said and I heard his usually solid voice quiver. The last time I saw him this broken was when I almost killed him on the hellacarrier. The thought sent a chill up my spine.
"But Hydra didn't program her with code words like you. My best guess is that all of this stress broke her, made her susceptible to Hydra again."

I looked around the room as he had done once before and couldn't believe it. Everyone was ready to give up on her. Even Steve.
I thought of how hard this must be for him, for everyone here and for those who got hurt. Barton was furious over Natasha in the hospital and God knows what will be the fate of the guards who had the sick pleasure of meeting Nyx.

But the Nyx doesn't leave survivors.

My eyes widened and a small laugh escaped my lips. "What's so funny?" Clint asked in an annoyed voice.
"Your majesty," I said turning to T'Challa , "Do you have the surveillance videos of Nyx fighting the guards?" He nodded and showed them on the tv screen.

On it you saw two guards getting disabled and both being shot in the leg and shoulder by Nyx. "There!" I said pointing to the footage. Everyone gave me a confused glare. I sighed, "Look, no one knows Nyx better than I do and as sick as this sounds, she doesn't leave survivors. Yet, she left these guards, and many others, alive!"

"James-" started T'Challa but I cut him off. "She had the chance to kill Romanoff," I continued, "Anyone in Hydra would've done so in a heartbeat regardless if they were following orders or not. Instead what does she do? Nyx knocked her out and moved her out of the way."

I looked to Steve and I could see him connecting the dots as I did. "Now," I said to him, "That doesn't sound like Nyx very much, does it?"

"What are you saying?" T'Challa asked. I turned to him. "I'm saying that this isn't something she wanted to do. We need to get her back."

*Claire's P.O.V*

We were miles away from the safe house. Miles away from the chaos. Miles away from Bucky.

I close my eyes and take deep breaths to calm myself. What I had just done was only now starting to set in. Bucky's breaking voice still echoed in my mind.
By now I've most likely been made an enemy of the nation. Clint probably hates me for what I did to Nat.

Guilt hit me like a hulk smash to the stomach as I though of what I had done to all those people. I had to put on a show for the cameras so I purposefully shot where I knew they wouldn't die. . . That is unless they died from blood loss but I tried not to think about it.

Flashbacks of Nat hitting the ground after knocking her out were seen every time I closed my eyes. I knew she would be fine. It takes more to kill her and I would know. I tried to train her where she would be indestructible. For once in my life I actually find myself thanking Hydra for what I've been given.

Knowing Bucky he wouldn't hate me; He'd be confused. Out of all of them he deserves to hate me but he's too good for that.
Besides, he knows somethings not right. He knew it the minute I said no to his proposal and he'll figure it out soon enough when he realizes I left survivors.

It was like a bloody trail of breadcrumbs to the truth.

"Comfortable?" Asked a man from behind me. I recognized the voice instantly and anger boiled inside of me threatening to spill out at any second. It was that man from the phone.

I turned around to face him. The man wore a smug look on his face that I wanted to shoot every second I looked at it. I didn't respond to his question. "Who the hell are you?" I asked instead.
He took two long strides towards me and I stood my ground narrowing my eyes at him. "You can't tell? I'm the ma-"

I rolled my eyes, "Yes, the man on the phone, but I need a name. Who do you work for exactly? How did you get all that access in the base?"
"My name is Jones, Tyler Jones," he sneered. "I work for Zemo a-"
I tensed up, "So Hydra?" Jones smirked, "No. Zemo only used Hydra's resources. Now stop interrupting or you'll never get to the best part."

He began to walk in circles around me as if studying my form. Needless to say it was unnerving.
"As for how I had access," he began, "There was a new rotation of low level guards set to be transferred to the safe house shortly after you arrived. I simply took one of their places without anyone noticing."
"So you killed someone?" I asked. Jones chuckled, "Technically, yes." I shook my head, "Is your name even Jones?" He just shrugged and smiled in a sickening manner.

"Anyways, Nyx," he said knowing it would bother me, "After I got inside the safe house, it was all a matter of installing secret cameras everywhere and waiting for you to do all the work of me. Also, you really shouldn't leave your phone unattended. Some really dangerous people might steal your information."

I leaned against the wall of the jet and crossed my arms, "Give me one reason why I shouldn't just kill you and turn this plane back around?"
"Well," he said clasping his hands together, "I have to hourly report to Zemo on whether or not you've killed me yet and if it just so happens that he doesn't get one of my reports, he'll tell the whole world about your ex-boyfriends whereabouts and expose the king blah blah blah!"

I scoffed, "How does he get hourly reports if he's in jail?"
"He has people bought in the prison," Jones said simply. I uncrossed my arms and took angry steps at him. "What the hell does he need me for then?! If he has people on the inside who can get him out then why doesn't he just have them do it?!" I screamed.

Jones went to stroke my cheek but I slapped his hand roughly out of the way. "Oh, Nyx," he started. "He wants you to break him out, specifically. Don't you get it by now?"

I just stared at him and took a step back. "This is all about hurting the avengers, about hurting Captain America, about hurting the Winter Soldier. About hurting you."

"Because you see," he continued, "The whole world will believe you're with Hydra again once you break Zemo out. The avengers will hunt you down if they ever go out of hiding and if they don't then you're at his disposal until the day you die. Either way it's a nasty blow to the team."
He stuck his hands in his front pockets and stood proud. Too proud.

"I guess you should get used to saying 'Hail Hydra'."
