One Year Later

Ultron had risen with the Maximoff twins and a massive army behind him. . . or it.
We had managed to find out his location in Wakanda at a vibranium shipping dock or mine of a sort. Being avengers, we were the first line of defense against anything that threatened the world but at the moment things were going to hell.

I was off shooting several of the robots when I felt a presence behind me. I turned around and was met with the gaze of the female twin; her hands went up and my world spun in a red light.

"You are ready, Nyx," said the voice of my commanding officer from behind me.

My hands firmly grasped the gun that was aimed at a man strapped to a chair. The terrified look in his eyes bore into mine and I could see the streams of sweat running down his forehead to dampen the cloth covering his mouth.

I looked at him curiously. What am I doing back at Hydra? Where are the rest of the avengers? Where the hell is Steve?

'Quiet!' A cold voice in my head thought, 'He is speaking and you will listen!'

I shook my head and regained my focus. Hydra did not tolerate mistakes and I was not about to make any.

"Shoot him," the man ordered. "But not to kill."
I moved my aim and shot his shoulder. Blood pooled by the wound and my ears were filled with his screams.
I felt bile rise up in my throat. This was the first time I had ever shot a real person. Well, at least from what I can remember. But I choked it down and listened to instructions.

"Again."
I shot the man in the knee and heard the snap of bones along with another scream.

Wait, this is wrong. Where's Ultron?

"Again."
I shot him on his other shoulder and the blood of all his wounds was starting to flow down to the floor. I watched in sick horror to what I did with the man.

"Now, Nyx," he started and I could practically hear his smirk. "Kill him."

NO!

I pulled the trigger and shot him in the head like I was trained to do. I saw the blood splatter behind him as his head fell backwards. The hole in his head was oozing blood and I closed my eyes. I felt tears running down but I didn't understand why.

"Shoot him again until you run out of bullets."

STOP!

I shot his head again and it practically split open. His chest was shot multiple times and the shirt he was wearing was utterly drenched in blood.
The smell of his death was repulsive. I could smell the rust of blood and its thickness from the few feet away where I stood.

The tears were flowing from my eyes more freely but I didn't care.
What was done is done and I am a better Hydra creation for it.

I had taken my first life as Nyx and ran out of bullets.

I heard my gun click at the empty sound. I blinked a couple of times and regained my thoughts.
I was pointing my gun at my brother who was holding his famous shield as a defense. Once the bullets stopped raining on him he peaked from behind and sighed in relief.

I gasped in horror and let the gun fall down to the floor. I was having trouble regaining my breath as I stumbled backwards and fell while still trying to get as far away from the gun as possible.

"Claire?" Steve said to me as he slowly got closer. My back hit a wall and I stared at him. "I'm sorry, Steve," I said through gasps, "I have no idea what happened."
He lowered his head, "The Maximoff girl got to you. She got to all of us."
I balled up my fists, "I was Hydra again." Steve only nodded sadly. "What did I do?" I asked. "Did I hurt anyone?"

"No," Steve started, "Everyone is safe." I sighed in relief and I tested my head on my knees. "You thought we were all targets, I'm guessing. I managed to distract you enough to get everyone else away."

"I was back at Hydra," I said to my brother. "I relived my first kill with them." He sat next to me and put an arm around my frame. "Worst part was that I knew it was wrong. I heard myself telling me to snap out of it but I did it anyways. I shot him until I ran out of bullets. Makes me wonder if I'm still part of them."

"Don't say that," he said. "It was just the girl playing on our fears. That isn't you anymore."
His words did little to help me but I faked a smile and nodded anyways. Sometimes it was better to let him think he was helping me. It brought me joy to see him happy.

When we got back to the jet everyone was silent. Somehow I'm guessing that Banner and I were somewhat in the same boat by the way everyone pretty much tip toed around us.
"I guess they both saw us for the first time today, right?" He said to me taking his headphones off.
"I'm gonna say you're episode wasn't all too pretty either?" I asked Bruce. He only shook his head.

I sighed and leaned close to whisper something, "I'm gonna tell you now that I'm not into the whole 'this isn't you, it wasn't your fault' bull shit. From one monster to another, I'm just glad that these people are here to clean up some of our messes."
Bruce chuckled. "That wasn't at all what I needed to hear but it sure as hell helped.

Thanks, Doyle." I smiled sadly and nodded in response.

I felt this disgusting urge inside of me. Like a dark spot that I thought I had washed away. It made me sick to think about it.
I mentally scoffed. How stupid was I to think that Hydra had let me go. Even if they aren't after me I'm still haunted by them.

I clenched my fists in a tight ball.

That Maximoff girl is going to get hell from me next time I see her.
