Earlier that Day
*Soldier's P.O.V*

For some reason I had been called by Pierce to his office. Against my better judgement, my mind started to formulate the worst possible situations that could happen.
For one, he could be putting you back in cryosleep. That's doesn't seem likely though. I'm usually used for a period of time and then they put me to freeze. What if he makes Nyx your mission? I already have a plan for that scenario. After disabling Pierce's guards and killing him, I'd have to find Nyx and somehow get us out of wherever the hell we are.

As I'm followed into the office with more guards I make my face a stone trying to not show my apprehension in coming here.
Relax. It could just be a regular mission. . . A really important regular mission that he himself had to tell me of. . .

Pierce turned to look at me like I was some dysfunctional toy. "How are you, Soldier?" He asked. My eyes widened in puzzlement at the hospitality I've never been shown by him, "Fine, I guess. Thank you, Sir." "Sit down," he added and I did as I was told.
"I'm glad to hear that you and your partner are getting along," he commented slyly.

Okay Soldier, there are four guards. You can take them out easily and then Pierce will be a piece of cake.

I didn't respond. Only waited for him to make his point. He looked me straight in the eye and I didn't break the stare. If he had any intention of hurting Nyx I had to show that I'm not backing down. He chuckled dryly, "That bitch really does have you wrapped around her finger doesn't she." I clenched my jaw in order to will myself to not let anything slip that could worsen my situation.

"Even now I can see it. There was a time when you'd fear my stare. Now look at you. Once you were my perfect and obedient soldier! I bet you really hate it when I call your little slut a bitch. After all, that's how I imagine she managed to get you t-"
I instantly shot up from my seat and banged my metal hand on his now broken desk. I felt my blood boiling and nothing would be made me happier than seeing a bullet though his head. But something held me back .
Pierce composed himself then looked at me again. "It's okay, Soldier. There's a way to turn this mishap into an opportunity." I only raised an eyebrow at him. Where the hell is he going with this. "Later today you will be going on a mission. Alone. Nyx on the other hand will continue her training here. Due to your state I've seen that she will be punished for it."

My eyes widened and I felt my stomach drop. "Don't worry," said Pierce clearly seeing me imagine all the worst possible things that could happen to her. "I told them to leave her alive." I let out a relived sigh. "But that is beside the point. In this mission you will retrieve a file from S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters. I can't send Nyx because she is too related to this mission and could end up compromising it." I listened in all of my confusion and worry. Pierce continues to speak, "You will not look inside of this file no after what you feel. Even if you do look, if I find out I will have Nyx killed right in front of your eyes. If you so much as tell her what is in that file, or show any indication of ever having read said file. . . Well, you already know."

I tightened my fists in anger. He wore a smug grin on his face. The kind that someone had when they knew they were going to win. "You will leave in 5 hours. Get all of the supplies you need and meet back here."
I looked anywhere else but him and nodded absentmindedly.

I'm gonna kill him. He's not going anywhere near her without me putting a bullet through his skull!

As I was just about to walk out the door he called me. "Oh and soldier?" I turned to him and stared daggers. "If you ever do something to, oh I don't know, kill me. I'll have you know that I've instructed every command officer and training official to kill her. There's no way you'd be able to save her then. " I narrowed my eyes and clenched my jaw so hard that my teeth started to hurt.

"Just insurance," he said.
