I don’t know why I was crying so much, it wasn’t like I loved him. Sure, I had a crush on him for awhile, but It wasn’t love. I needed to just suck it up and get over it. I sniffed, wiping my nose on my sleeve. I stood up on my shaky feet and stumbled over to my new bed. I just couldn’t believe he’d do that, even though he had a girlfriend. Maybe I should tell her…  I thought. No, I’ll just keep it to  myself. No one will ever know about me and Nathan. I decided I’d just pretend like nothing ever even happened, even if it killed me inside.

Chelsea called me down for dinner a half hour later. I was currently sitting at the table next to Peggy and Chelsea, and across from Nathan. Chelsea and Peggy talked animatedly about how fun it was going to be for me to stay with them. I just nodded. Nathan was surprisingly quite the whole time. Only speaking when directly spoken too. I thought maybe he felt bad about what we did, but with a quick glance in his lap, realized he was texting. Probably to his girlfriend. I suffered through the rest of my stuffed pork chops, thanked Peggy, and excused my self to my room.

I flopped onto my bed face down.  My life sucked. All I wanted is a happily ever after, but all I ever get is hell. Nothing goes right for me. I rolled over onto my side and sucked in a big breath of air before exhaling it out loudly. I grabbed my picture frame off the night stand and stared at it. We were a;; so happy then. So peaceful. A perfect family. Now one was dead, and the other might as well be. I felt more tears coming, so I searched for my numbness and welcomed it back with open arms.

I woke up the next morning to Chelsea shaking me awake practically bouncing with excitement.

“Get up, come on, hurry!” She exclaimed.

“Ugh. I’m up. What? Is it time for school?” I moaned.

“No, we’re not going. Mom’s taking us to the mall so we can get new clothes!”

“Chelsea, I already have clothes…I’m not using your money.”

“It’s your money now too, you live here don’t you? Oh and by the way, I quit subway for you.” She looked down at me sweetly.

“What? Chelsea! That was my job!” I pushed her out of the way and ran into the bathroom.

Sadly, she followed.

“It’s fine, really. We have more than enough.” She was practically begging now.

“Fine, Chelsea, Whatever. Just get out so I can take a shower.” She nodded once, and skipped out of my room.

I grabbed some random clothes and opened my door. I crossed the hall and opened the door to the bathroom, not even noticing the sound of the shower already going, or even the steam that filled the air.

“Oh Nathan, what if your mom finds us?” A high pitched female voice said.

“She wont Natalie, I locked the door, I promise.” Nathan replied. Oh no, This must be Nathan’s girlfriend… I stopped dead in my tracks but couldn’t seem to find the energy to move and close the door. I stood there frozen.

“Oh alright,” She chuckled. “Now a promise is a promise.”

“Yeah it is, now get to it babe, I don’t have all day, I have to bring my sister and her friend to the –“ His words were cut of by a loud moan escaping his lips. “Yeah Natalie, like that.”

I gasped at what was going on and spun out of the room. I crossed back into my room and slammed the door. I couldn’t believe what I just witnessed. Sure I was just a one night stand, but did he not have any remorse for what he did to her? Was he not going to tell her? That was messed up. Chelsea interrupted my train of thoughts by bursting into my room moments later.

“Why aren’t you ready yet? Come on Anna!” She groaned.

“Well I tried, but it seems your brother has company in the shower.” I said, faking nonchalance.

“Are you serious? I’m going to tell mom.” I giggled as she ran out the door. Good, I thought, Let him get in trouble. Maybe she’ll forbid him from seeing Natalie.  I stopped myself after that. I was getting out of hand. He’s not mine to be jealous of. What part of just one night didn’t I understand?

An hour later and we were in the car headed towards the mall with a fuming Nathan.

“Why the fuck would you tell mom, Chelsea?” He shouted.

“Why the fuck would you have that nasty ass in my shower?” She countered.

“ It’s all of our shower Chelsea. And she’s not nasty.”

“ Oh she’s definitely nasty. You practically scarred Anna.” Oh shit.

“Wait, Anna, how’d you know she was there?” He asked, catching my gaze in the rearview mirror.

“Uh well… uh..” I stuttered. “ I went in there to.. uh.. get in the shower, and the door was unlocked and you guys were in there…” My cheeks were on fire.

                Nathan surprised me by laughing.

“Well that sucks. Sorry Anna.” He said, still laughing. “Not a very good way to meet my girlfriend, huh?”

I just kept quiet and hoped this day would go by fast.
